my mother watches soap operas and is watching them right now actually. I used to like them as a kid, but now they kind of really annoy me.

When I was still living with my parents, my mother would watch them every day. I had to either put headphones on and listen to music, or leave the room. Couldn't stand them. The acting was atrocious and every character was an insufferable scumbag.

I really dislike soaps, I think as community based relationships disintegrated, soaps filled that local gossip/nosy neighbor void. It drives me nuts that scripts are needed to help people develop an understanding of societal issues. Some soap land messages about illnesses like depression just cheese me off, what winds me up even more is when people apply these new found understandings to me, please get your information from another source :x.

I lived with someone who watched 4 different soaps religiously, I reckon she lost 2 hours per day to these soaps, and then she would call people to talk about what happened. I just don't get it.

I can't stand them, either----that's why I can't watch "Downton Abbey", as much as I ADORE Maggie Smith!!

Is Downton Abbey a soap? I've seen listings for it on Amazon Prime, but I've never seen it listed as a soap.

My mom used to watch them all the time when I was little and hog up all the recording time on the recorder.
They were so stupid and annoying! I don't know how she could have watched them, they looked so boring, the acting is so exaggerated, and they always lived a posh looking lifestyle!

I don't mind soaps...when something big is going on with the storyline. My mom is a big Young & The Restless and General Hospital fan. She also used to love As the World Turns until it got canceled a few years ago. GH seems to have more suspenseful moments than with Young & The Restless.
But when the people go on and on about relationships and random stuff, then it gets very boring. Someone in a hostage situation, killed off, missing, etc. gets me on a little bit more.
I hate Downton Abbey. Wealthy British women that I do not watch. Heck, I only watch PBS a couple times a year, if that! A rare Antiques Roadshow and maybe Frontline or NOVA.

My mom & grandma watched afew of em till all but one got canceled(so they only watch that one nowadays). I found them annoying but I'd like to watch the robot soap opera in Futurama, All My Circuits.

I find other soap operas to be very dramatic and unrealistic. But when I watch Korean drama, i find them very moving.

American soaps are the biggest waste of time. At least foreign soaps have plausible story lines and actually END at some point. But I won't watch, and got my wife and sister in law to stop watching theirs right out of High School.

I refuse to even acknowledge that they exist, I have no care for them and would rather watch sports.

I always found soaps terrible. When I was really young my mom would have General Hospital and Another World on during the day but I don't know if she seriously watched them, and of course I was too young to understand any of it.
I used to find the commercials more entertaining!

One time a few years ago I was sick with a throat infection and was looking for something to watch while resting. I must have been delirious because I actually started watching a soap. The acting was just gawwwd-awful.

Why do they even call them soaps? They're so dirty!

Oh god this is so on point it's not even funny. My mum watches coronation street and it's so predictable. It's like if there isn't a death, affair or criminal trial they can't justify making an episode. Not to mention the wooden acting.. I hate most soaps with a passion ugh.
