Sometimes, I like to ask myself questions that strike the imagination. This is one of those Qs.
---
Have some fun with this Q: Let's say that a TV show that you are hosting or starring has gotten the announcement that it will go off the air in the immediate future. What would you do in the final shows? And the final show itself?

For me, if I was the host of a daily overnight newscast, I'd say on the Monday show of the final week: "Before we start this show, I just want to inform everyone who has been watching this show for a long time, and we are grateful for you guys, this show is going off the air at the end of this week........" And then over the week, we'd play some classic and funny moment's of the show's time on the air. And then, once the last few minutes of the last show come, I will say:
"Well, the time has come for us. After 545 shows, the end has come. I'd like to thank everyone on the staff who have made these 2 1/2 years a great one; the guys who put on this show who are behind the camera, who'd otherwise go unnoticed. They are the true MVPs of this or any other TV show. And to you, the viewers out there, we hope we have somehow made your night a bit happier, and maybe even brighter with my presence. This was an experience, a ride that I am forever grateful. Now, from all of us here at OVERNIGHT, thank you for watching, and goodbye my friends." And then in the closing credits, you will get to see my staff that worked on the show set to "Friends" by Elton John.

It doesn't matter what ideas I'd have, the network executives will be the ones to determine how everything should and will be done.

Sad, but realistic.

That is the unfortunate truth. I am still ticked off at NBC for cancelling Revolution. Great shows like that are canceled while garbage reality shows continue to thrive and get churned out. :x

There's too many good shows that were either cancelled or badly retooled by network execs. In cinema, at least there's always been a thriving independent market to make whatever the heck you want to make without the interference of studio executives, but TV's always been held to too many restrictions. Thankfully, with the rise of Netflix and web-exclusive programming, there's bound to be more creative freedom in the medium in the near future.

Twin Peaks was taken off the air too soon. Happily, there will be a reboot in 2016.

A lot of people are divided over this, but I'm of the opinion that season two went drastically downhill after network execs demanded that the Laura Palmer mystery be solved early on. After that, the show got more and more ridiculous and convoluted (and not in a good way), and I think a cancellation was a mercy kill. The first season was some of the best television ever created, and I can't help but feel a third season would have tarnished its reputation.

With the current state of TV now, however, I have nothing but cautious optimism about the 2016 revival.

Anybody else have any opinions if a show you did went off the air?

I'm a huge fan of the show Breaking Bad and I've read that Bryan Cranston was not the original choice to play Walter White. In fact, the producers wanted John Cusack to play Walter, but IMO, the show would have lasted three seasons at the most.

{Don't get me wrong, I think John Cusack is a good actor, but Bryan Cranston IS WALTER WHITE.}
