They've gone as far as Die Hard can go.

They haven't done much with Terminator.

Terminator hasn't overstayed its welcome, they just keep letting the wrong people make em. The last movie, Genisys, was directed by the same guy that did Thor the Dark World so yeah I knew it was going to suck. 1,2, and maybe Salvation were the good ones, only saw Salvation once years ago need to watch it again.

That's the problem, isn't it?

They need the right people for that right job. Being flashy is no good if there is no real effort put in.

For me, pretty much franchise loses its appeal after the third installment (and many before that). I would say that even Star Wars got boring after Episode VI (heresy!). Most actors start looking pretty bored at that point, and it's clear they are just there for the paycheck.
