I love:
Columbo
The prisoner
Breaking bad
Monk
House
X-files

I don't like/can't handle watching super violence (breaking bad pushed it at times as did one or two episodes of the x-files..one in particular (about an inbred, secluded family..the mother was very disturbing) i must skip every time i watch the series).

Does anyone have similar tastes and have other great shows they'd recommend?

If you enjoyed Breaking Bad, then you'll like Better Call Saul.

Dawson's Creek is a very funny and moving show. The characters in it are outsiders but they have an interesting romantic tension between them, rivalry, comedic hijinks and there's a lot of drama that covers all life is about. It hasn't aired since 2003 but it's worth buying online. You can get it cheap no.

I highly recommend Get Smart. Very funny secret agent show.

Well, if you want to avoid a lot of violence, Mad Men is a good choice.
