Whoa.

I mean, wow. Lately there has been this huge slew of crappy, disappointing(and crappy ones which weren't disappointing), movies that were shallow and american and stupid and embarrassing.

This movie.... it is scary.

I think that movie really sucked. It had an interesting premise, but it didn't really go anywhere with it. Just a bunch of people chasing Robin Williams around basically.

I am a person who studies sociology, and psychology, as well as biology and the like. I am especially fascinated about the nature of consciousness, self awareness, and such. And the idea of a society existing where ones experiances can be recorded is extremely interesting to me. The possibilities if such a thing could be done, the kind of culture that could develop would be rich, nearly beyond imagination. But not totally beyond imagination, because this movie didn't just introduce the idea, it told the story of only ONE aspect of such a world.
In this world only sight and sound were recorded, but imagine if sight, sound, the minds eye, and feelings were recorded. You could experiance the life of another just as they did(or almost just as they did). Truely in this world, humanity is immortal, until everything is destroyed. You could keep a record of all living humans forever, their entire lives and all they experianced. Technology could progress extremely rapidly. No longer would countless years be taken to teach new students old ideas, but new students could experiance the discoveries of scientists as it occured to them. They could see insight as it occured to those who percieved it.
In this world, the nature of experiance is an entirely different concept.

So stories like these really get to me, Serial experiments lain, the animatrix, bicentenial man, dark city, those kind of stories.

When I first seen the thread title I thought, and hoped, it was the Pink Floyd album by the same name.
