I loved The Big Lebowski, but this looks really good.

Primer and Waking Life are also favs that would fit in this category.

Sorry for the necro bump but I'd say all my favourite movies are kind of existential.

All time favourite is Synechdoche New York. There is so much in that movie. Not an easy watch but it gets me every time.

Harold and Maude is a long time favourite. Eraserhead, Wings of Desire.

Spoorloos, aka The Vanishing (1988)

An existential horror film. Not to be confused with the dreadful American remake, which was, ironically, done by the same director. According to Wikipedia, as well as other online sources, Stanley Kubrick is quoted as having said that this was the most terrifying film he had seen...

Should you choose to watch it, take my advice and do not glean any further information. No Youtube comments, no IMDB trivia. Nothing. Should anyone attempt to spoil the ending for you, plug your ears with your fingers and run away.

(Even if you are made aware of how the story ends, or if you should predict it ahead of time, it will still be a nail-biter.)

Wings of Desire aka Der Himmel Über Berlin

It's in german, but it's definetely worth watching if you're into existential movies. The film follows a group of angels who walk around in Berlin, listening to people's thoughts. Some of them are pondering philosophical questions, others are troubled by existential questions, essentially "Who am I?" and "What does other people think of me?"

I believe the American version, starring Nicholas Cage, is called City Of Angels.

I loved Joe vs The Volcanoe when i was younger. Made me think about what was important in life.

When i got older i saw Office Space and realised that i should quit my job and change direction - and i did.

I should also say, I recall watching Wings Of Desire in college. I liked it a great deal.

Yeah, it was remade into an awful romantic drama that completely and utterly misses the point and the mood of the original. Stick with the original if you want it existential and not cheesy

Another great existential movie is Solaris by Andrei Tarkovsky. His movies are always deeply spiritual and deals with existential themes like guilt, memories and the individual's choice - but they are kind of slow and obscure, so I wouldn't recommended them to everyone. Solaris was also remade into a George Clooney sci fi flick, but I think it's watchable.

Haha, so glad to see that I'm not the only one whose favorite movies are all pretty much existential in nature.
Waking Life is a great one.

Taxi driver.

Isn't "The Graduate" supposed to be an existential film? In high school our English teacher assigned us to read Camus' "The Stranger" which was certainly existential (and, IIRC, inspired The Cure song "Killing An Arab") and then we watched The Graduate during class and had to write on the parallels between the book and the movie.
