I would have to say Curb Yr Enthusiasm.
But i dont know if we can class this as a proper sitcome, so will say Seinfeld.

They can be British, of course?

I have no particular one favourite, however, I love Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Bottom, and Black Books. Unfortunately, the definition of 'sitcom' pretty much excludes two more of my favourite shows: The Young Ones and The League of Gentlemen.....

Well, ive been thinking, and ive changed my mind.
I've not looked up a definition, but I think Curb is a sitcom, and i would allow you The Young Ones.

I've not seen Black Books, but there was a comedy series on channel 4 called The Book Group. That was one of the best comedies i have seen in recent years, i think it got ditched after 2 series.

Isn't the Book Group with Pam Anderson? Black Books is about an ornery bookshop owner. He's the guy in my avatar. He's an antisocial, weird sort of fellow who drinks, smokes, and doesn't like anyone buying books. He's sort of like me if I owned a bookshop, were more evil, and drank and smoked.

What about The League of Gentlemen? Or is that too sketch-based? Read the Wikipedia article to make up your own mind.

If you like dark humour, you'll LOVE The League of Gentlemen. Actually, one of the League (Mark Gatiss) has been writing a couple of Doctor Who episodes, and appeared as Professor Lazarus in the episode The Lazarus Experiment....

I was never a fan of Father Ted, so did not watch Black Books .
Same with League Of Gentlemen, i can watch it and find it amusing in parts but don't really see why it appeals so much ( i guess we all have different tastes).
Actually, League Of Gentleman, was filmed quite close to where i live, well 10 miles away. I went to a do somewhere in Royston Vasey once.

IMDB Book Group
I hope they repeat it soon.

Hey, if you like a show, you try to find things out about the production itself, not just the storyline. Otherwise, you go mad trying to reconcile continuity errors....

Never been there (or to the UK) in my life. I have relatives in Scotland, but that's it.....

Well, what i can tell you about Hadfield is that some of the locals would not be out of place in League of Gentleman.
I got locked in a pub there one night; managed to escape though.

I like 'Black Books', Bill Bailey is a legend. :D

I also like 'Red Dwarf', 'One Foot In The Grave', 'The Young Ones' and the shockingly little known 'Look Around You'.

well like i say, i am not big fan of Father Ted, but i did see Dylan Moran doing some stand-up on tv a few weeks ago.
He went up in my estimation, not so much, that he was very funny; but he has a very good way with words, and with his irish accent it was quite impressive.

Some mothers do ave him, is great. I like the physical stuff he does. Like Kosmo off Seinfeld.

I think Stacked was the one with Pam Anderson.
