Why did Sanjaya get on American Idol in the first place? Oh well, at least he isn't as bad as William Hung. Thank god that he got sent home!

They found him entertaining, they being the 3 judges, and later realized he isn't a good singer in every genre, just very specific songs. His sister was a better singer, and sooooo pretty. I wish she had made it on.

Tony Bennett liked his voice, but I agree that he is a better entertainer than a singer.

I dunno...I heard he was mostly being supported by people who think the show is garbage, or at least it takes itself too seriously.

And they were voting for him as sort of a way of expressing their dissatisfaction with American Idol, because the show is a prime example of the way the corporate media force feed us boring unoriginal music and try to pass it off as 'important' and 'good'.

That's kinda what I heard. I dunno though, maybe there was another reason.

Is Tony Bennett one of those people?

It's possible. Maybe Tony Bennett thought Sanjaya could use a boost, for whatever reason, probably just because the show put him with Sanjaya then interviewed him and asked his opinion.

Tony Bennett being a cool dude and Sanjaya having not the world's worst voice and a decent personality, Tony probably just said something like "yeah the kid is good, I like that he's original".

The the show's producers and editors edited the clip to make Tony seem just a bittle bit more enthusiastic.

But yeah my point is we shouldn't discount the idea that Tony Bennet might have been working off of an instinct to "support the under-dog" or "teach a creepy TV show something about originality"

He was probably just getting over the flu at the time.

He is a living legend, though!

What was with that little girl with the braces doing on the show! She must have had a huge crush on Sanjaya.

I hate American Idol but I found Sanjaya to be very entertaining.
I agree that he's not as bad as William Hung but did he actually kiss the girl with braces on live television?

Very bold of him to do so.

Sanjaya is not bad. He's not that good, but he's not bad either.

In latin week, he really captured me, since he actually sung a song in spanish(! !!) and he sung with a sweet voice, and with an comprenhensible spanish, I understood every word of what he said, so for that sole reason, he's got a good grade for me...

I bet giving the makers of the show all that money from phone-in votes made them rethink their ways pretty quickly. :D

I think the "live talent show" format does produce quite a few talented acts, it's just that they're usually not the winners. In a way, it's better to come second or third. You've got a lot of exposure, but expectations aren't as high.

And they aren't tied to bad contracts, but are free to look the actually best options for themselves...
