Good Sequels to Bad Movies
When it comes to sequels sometimes they can good even better than the original or they can completely suck and ruin the first movie. However here's something nobody really brings up. Have you ever seen a sequel that was good to a movie that was bad or at least mediocre or just not great. I don't think I've seen a lot though there are some I've heard of and some that are just OK but still better than it's predecessor.
A good example would be Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The first Star Trek movie was kind of a snore fest. While it wasn't awful and not the worst Star Trek movie it was very slow paced and boring and was treated as more of an experience and could have probably been better as an episode of the tv series. The sequel was way better with a great story of revenge, a darker edge and the characters were written a lot more interesting.
Another good example of a bad movie with a good sequel would be X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It ruined fan favourite characters like Deadpool and Gambit and was considered bland, boring and filled with bad cgi (claws). While I don't really consider its sequel The Wolverine to be a great movie (maybe not even 100% good) it's still much better than the predecessor. It was still more interesting to watch though it does have its own problems like the middle part where he's spending more time with that woman can get a little boring, the climax is a little silly and outside of Wolverine the only interesting character was that red headed Mutant girl who can see the future. The others while not awful by any means just weren't that interesting.
How about Disney's The Rescuers? Now this more from the point of view of the general audience but a lot of Disney fans out there prefer its sequel The Rescuers Down Under. Now I've only seen half of that movie so I can't completely judge it fully but I can actually see why. I neither love or hate the first movie but it isn't really anything to write home about. Heck it was released during Disney's dark age and not a lot of those films were. The sequel looked more bigger and had a better animated look to it whereas the first movie had that weird sketchy look.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith doesn't really count as a good movie and it's predecessors were both prequels but I guess it still counts as they are a trilogy separate but still canon with the original trilogy. It was more watchable, interesting and at times pretty cool than anything the first two prequels gave us. The Phantom Menace was a really big mess and personally Attack of the Clones was worse. Revenge of the Sith did carry over a lot of problems from the other two films like the bad acting and awful love story and stuff like Anakin's turn to the Darkside was pretty rushed but for the stuff it does do right like the opera house scene, the opening space battle and the lightsaber duels at the end it was fun to watch and still easier to get through. Sometimes.
I can't really think of any other movies I've seen that were bad with good sequels. Can You?
