Movies or TV series?
Seems like ever since Game of Thrones came out, people have wanted their favorite books turned into long running tv series instead of movies. I totally get that. Why settle for one 2-3 hour movie when you can get 12 or more hour long episodes telling the story chapter by chapter? The only downside I can think of is that you have to wait for each episode to come out, instead of getting it all at once like you would with a movie. Unless you wait to buy the complete season on DVD, of course, but then you can't watch the show at all until after all the episodes have already aired.
Anyway, which do you prefer?
For a long time, I think the means to have quality Special FX has kept many books adaptions going to the cinema. I think FX is becoming more affordable and we can get great shows like WestWorld.
Also, for some reason really high caliber movie actors have started to try out television. This makes me think of The Silence of the Lambs Vs. NBC's HANNIBAL and I liked both the movie and TV shows a lot. One nitpick of the show might be the wait between seasons or the horrible uncertainty of a show cancellation. Also, the nature of TV shows imposes a structure on the plot as viewer interest is kept with the slow buildup to a season finale and cliffhanger. While this usually works, it's probably a challenge to also get closure on story arcs instead of stringing along the audience.
