The younger brother of Dick van Dyke, star of that wretched 1960’s sitcom My Mother the Car, and later, costar of Coach, at the age of 86.

He was also Father-in-law to the late Jack Nance, best known as Henry from Eraser Head. Van Dyke had outlived both Nance and his daughter.
