Movies to educate law students about autism?
I am an autistic 1L and my law school does I think weekly movies educating people on struggles different people have. I would like to try to educate them on autistic struggles, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas of good documentaries with which I could do this? I have seen Autism the Musical, Mozart and the Whale (quasi-documentary), and Temple Grandin, but they don't really describe struggles that we face that would play a role in the legal field (outside of maybe AtM but that is all about kids so incredibly narrowly) so was wondering if anyone had some others that might interest law school students and describe the struggles we face throughout our life.
I think the most urgent legal connection with Aspies is the criminal justice issue of stalking and sexual offenses. Tony Attwood has some good video talks that introduce this subject and also what social issues Aspergers people encounter. Just the other day I was speaking with someone who adopted an Aspie kid, and as he approaches 18 the challenges of preventing him from being referred to the authorities for agressive behaviors of a sexual nature has been keeping them busy. The criminal justice system draws no distinction, between Aspies and socially competent NT's with full volition who do these things. As a result, the prevailing attitude appears to be treatment = prison. In many cases the disposition of a case rests with a perceptive and sympathetic prosecutor, who diverts a case to an appropriate channel.
Some authorities estimate the prevalence of AS in the prison populations is about four times higher than in the general population.
