The 25th Bond movie will show Daniel Craig's secret agent retiring to the Caribbean, with black British actress Lashana Lynch playing a younger spy who takes over as 007. There's been a lot of talk about whether or not Bond is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women, so this change seems to be inevitable.

Misleading headline, misleading article with nothing but speculation. Absolutely nothing has been confirmed as to what role Lashana Lynch will be playing or what significance said role will be. The only thing 100% confirmed is that her character's name is "Nomi".

The fact that the entire rumor is vaguely "[a]ccording to an insider" should be red flag number one, but the biggest is that all articles covering this story trace their source to the Daily Mail, a British tabloid renowned for being - to quote a collective five references on Wikipedia - "widely criticised for its unreliability".

Sounds like the perfect kind of clickbaity rumor to sensationalize so racist/sexist/stupid people have something to outrage over.

Why does that bother you?

Personally it doesn't bother me at all, but I'm just not a fan of James Bond.

It's just like with Bruce Wayne aka Batman. No matter how politically correct they try to make the character in modern times, I just can't get over the fact that he's a spoiled rich playboy living in a big mansion beating the crap out of street criminals who probably grew up in extreme poverty and were desperate for money.

And I can't get over the fact the 007 has a license to kill anybody he feels like. Even if he chooses to only kill the supposed 'bad guys'.

I lost most of my interest in the franchise when Sir Sean Connery was replaced. He defined the role.

I think they're trying too hard.

SJW's corrupt EVERYTHING, they butchered and gutted starwars with that ridiculous Mary-sue, just wait for what they're going to do with Amazon's Middle-earth series.

SJW's are the scourge of intellectual properties, they go from story to story infecting and polluting that which they should have no part in, inserting their toxic agenda to corrupt and destroy what was once beautiful and noble (while ennobling that which is ugly and base) I pity them and their stooge apologists, they're doing to movies/stories what they did to "modern art" (if you can even dignify it with that).

Maybe you haven't read the articles, so here's a quick plot recap.

James has retired from MI-6. Thus, his license to kill ("00" rating) and designation ("7") have been given to another agent, who happens to be a black woman. James somehow becomes involved in the new Agent 007's first assignment, but without his old license to kill, and without sanction from Q. James Bond is still James Bond. He has simply been replaced by another agent.

Hasty conclusions of a racist and sexist nature notwithstanding, it should make for an interesting (if still somewhat predictable) addition to the Bond franchise.

People who complain about changes that supposedly lineup with the sjw movement are the biggest snowflakes of all. STFU.

I share the general sentiment. Some folks are prone to complain about changes, but cannot leave it at that. They have to ascribe those changes to something scary. In this case, it's the SJWs. Others target leftists, liberals, Democrats, Socialists, LGBTQs, and whatever other group that they may perceive as a threat to the warm, fuzzy comfort of their personal status quo.

Personally, this twist on the over-riding theme of the Bond franchise shows some promise, but may only be a temporary respite from the ceaseless juvenile fantasy of a sociopathic womanizer saving the Free World and bedding however many female counterparts he may find.

Maybe I've become jaded in my old age, but I personally believe that the Bond franchise is a relic of an age when the only "real" heroes were solitary men who settled conflicts with their fists or a gun.

Those days are drawing to a close, and the people who long for their return had better grow up and get used to it.

"Sorry, dude", but every website "confirming" the "news" still links to that singular, unreliable source: an anonymous "insider" quoted by a sensationalist tabloid. This is Fact Checking 101, "dude": show me a reliable source confirming this news which doesn't link back to the Daily Mail.

And even if it does turn out to be true, "dude", it's still cynical pandering. If Hollywood truly wants to atone for the long-standing sexism and misogyny of the James Bond franchise, it's not as easy as throwing a token minority into the role and calling it a day, especially if her character ends up being written as a mere vapid sex object like so many female protagonists in contemporary action films are (including some James Bond films). Are you still going to be hailing this casting as "progressive" if her character ultimately serves no purpose to the narrative other than shooting big guns in skimpy outfits? I'll believe it when I see it in execution, otherwise I have every reason to be skeptical about this unproven rumor, because as far as it appears on the surface, it's a totally shallow PR move from condescending producers.

If this is true unfortunately it will get really ugly. As crazy as people went when the female Ghostbusters came out and are now with the black Disney princess, It is hard to imagine how apeshit people will react to a soul sister Bond.

I am as anti SJW as anyone but I just can not get upset about a fictional character. If they try too hard just to have a black women the movie will suck.

Now what would be sacralidge is if she is not British
