Subject says it all, I suppose. A few years ago I took a month off from watching TV. I forget why, exactly, but before then I was a pretty normal TV watcher, i.e. 2 hours a day or so. When I started watching again, I saw it in a new light, and I found the quality of most of the shows to be insulting. I was mostly annoyed by the ridiculously long commercial segments that stations are getting into now. Since then, I can't stand to watch TV, at all. It's not one of those "I hate TV, except for..." things, I find pretty much all of it repulsive.

Since my fat drunken hick of a roommate moved out a few months ago, I've been living without a TV. In the last month, I haven't so much as looked at a turned-on TV, and I don't miss it a bit. As far as I'm concerned, if I never have to have the idiot box blaring at me ever again, I'll be happy.

Am I the only one?

I completely agree with you %100. The only reason why I would own a TV myself is for the news (which I suppose I could just get online) and for movies. I am rather fond of movies.

But yes, TV is completely pointless. And insulting, I agree there, too. You are not alone.

I watch the news, a few Comedy Central shows, and the Adult Swim block. That's about it. I can't say that I really hate TV, though I see your point.

I love movies too, but most stations around here only play Armageddon, Bad Boys, and more Armageddon. I much prefer the free choice of the movie theater.

TV is like a drug... or at least what I think being on drugs is like never touch the stuff  , its just mild enough stimulation to keep you away from more interesting or important things. I could be even playing video games or proving mathematical theorems, but no I have to watch some stupid show on building Motorcycles or a cooking show about making pies...

I am lured to these quasi-educational shows that I think are safe since I'll be learning about something. But even though I know I can use my time towards something much more constructive...

I've been thinking about having a tv just for dvds... since most of the shows I want to watch are on dvd anyways. And then its easier to control how much I watch, plus the biggest benefit is no commercials. Hmm... I should really think about this. :?

3 reasons to have a TV:

1. The Simpsons
2. My DVDs
3. Did I say three? 8O

Actually, I wish I had time to watch TV at all. Probably having a job that implies staring at a stupid screen all day has to do a lot with it - when I get home, I prefer to crank up the stereo and lay in bed or play air guitar - not go see yet another screen. :D

I never watch TV either. Broadcast TV is complete trash and a huge waste of time. I hardly ever even watch DVDs either. I only own about a handful of DVDs.

I haven't watched television in over two years. I had a room mate who had it on constantly and it drove me batty. I can't deal with the noisy confusion coming out of the box. I don't even like radio because of the commercials. I have timed one radio program to find when the news and weather will be on and that is the only time I listen. I listen to CD’s if I want noise in my house.
I thought I was an odd-ball for not watching television. I took a course on Human Life Science and a semester project was to collect our commercial media intake (book reading, television, non-school related internet use, and radio). I was the only one who had less than 20hrs weekly intake, and it was almost all book reading with some internet.
Again, someone shows me I’m not the only one.

The only thing we really use TV for is to watch our DVD's. I don't like any of the rest of it really. It's all nonsense! Sometimes there is a good documentary on, but; it seems mostly, it's nothing but reality shows. They aren't even good reality shows!!

I don't get the current craze of reality shows either. For me, they are a sign that the TV head honchos have already run out of worthwile ideas for TV shows and couldn't think of anything better than exploit the morbid curiosity of viewers, or play the easy, toilet humor card.

I always wonder how come some people can go to sleep watching TV. I can't . I prefer listening to music.

I hate it too. It's obnoxious, blaring, tells you what to think (god forbid anyone should grow a brain and learn to think for themselves!). The shows are stupid.

If we had cable, I would watch documentaries...and right now I'd be watching the autism stiuff on NBC, but all we have here is ABC anyway. I would far rather read a book or make something or take a walk.

Also: the high pitched whine of the T.V. drives me NUTS!! ! I can hear it even in another room. Other people oiften say that they can't hear it. Arrrrgh!! !

My TV is mainly off these days. Only thing I ever watch is maybe the news or some music videos on one of the digital cable music networks. I have a strong love for South Park but still never watch it that often except when I am bored and have nothing else to do or if its new. I focus more on the radio and the computer. I enjoy one of my good VHS tape that I recorded several to many years ago (usually of music video networks) on occations when I am really bored.

Otherwise, no TV. Its mostly lame. Right now, no TV even if I tried because the outlet that connects it to the cable to the cable box is connected to the modem directly because my 2 way slitter is busted.

I don't simply watch the tv, I read it like a book.

I don't read poorly written books in the same way I don't watch poorly made tv.

I like alot of the sci-fi stuff.

I enjoy watching TV.

Good way to fill time, and get a cheap laugh. CSI is a good show, The Simpsons ROCKS, and Everybody loves Raymond is funny.

My fav show is Jonathan Creek though.

I also love movies, the occasional cartoon, and analysing ads as i'm interested in commercial marketing.

I don't watch much tv. The only thing I regularly watch is cartoons, anime, Sometimes I watch Stargate, Power Rangers or something on the Discovery channel Mostly, I use my TV to play video games.
I hate reality shows except for stuff like Trading Spaces or Junkyard Wars (which i don't really consider Reality shows)
