I have some bad news for everyone here. This will make all Americans and Australians very sad.

Unfortunately, Merv Griffin is close to death of prostate cancer.

Now, I'm sure you're probably wondering why I told all of you Aussies to read this.

It is because Merv Griffin is the creator of one of the most popular game shows in Australia, "Wheel of Fortune."

It was very popular with John Burgess until Larry Emdur took over.

Everyone can see Merv Griffin's last creation (most likely,) called "Merv Griffin's Crosswords" on September 10. Ty Treadway, from "One Life to Live," has been named host.

Merv, I wish you a very speedy recovery and I hope you live long enough to see at least one episode of "Wheel of Fortune," "Jeopardy!," or "Crosswords" next year. You are a great man and I like you very much!

I did not know this. This is terrible. Merv Griffin has indeed created very popular game shows here in the states. He has been a big influence on the game show world.

I didn't know that he was so sick.

Hello Jason William!

It's good to meet you here as we gather for good wishes to our dear friend and for you, a lifelong companion.

I had the good fortune to remember Merv Griffin on his long ago talk show, and with the exception of "Wheel of Fortune" have been a great fan of his game shows.

You don't even like Chuck Woolery?

I'm amazed! You seem quite young to remember Merv's talk show!

Isn't Wheel of Fortune also an American show? I remember watching it when little after school. John Burgess certainly was a good host, but now....

Yes. "Wheel of Fortune" is still very popular here! Pat Sajak, a weatherman from Chicago, is our host here. He is a good host in his own right.

Instead of playing for a car like they did in Australia, $100,000 is the top prize in the bonus round here.

Now, Chuck Woolery . . .every man on that show wanted to BE Chuck Woolery and every woman wanted him to be, too! Chuck will never know how many times I actually timed the 'two minutes two seconds' and always gave him the benefit of the doubt. Ryan Seacrest should dream he would ever be as good as ChuckWoolery.

it's Vanna and that front man on Wheel that just seems to beat on my inner ear, Jason William. No accounting for taste I guess.

Chuck Woolery was the original host of "Wheel of Fortune."

However, it's Pat Sajak that you don't like!

I am sorry to let you know that Merv Griffin, creator of such game shows as Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune has passed away this morning, 08/12/07. He now has a 'Lovely bunch of Coconuts'.

"I will not be right back after this message " is what he wanted on his tomb stone

Yes, I just heard. Here's an article for more info:

Merv Griffin dies at age 82 By BOB THOMAS, Associated Press Writer
28 minutes ago

Merv Griffin, the entertainer turned impresario who parlayed his "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" game shows into a multimillion-dollar empire, has died. He was 82.

Griffin died of prostate cancer, according to a statement from his the family that was released by Marcia Newberger, spokeswoman for The Griffin Group/Merv Griffin Entertainment.

Griffin, who began his career as a $100-a-week radio singer in San Francisco, created the "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" game shows, soon moved on to become the featured vocalist in Freddy Martin's band.

That led to a brief film career, in which he appeared opposite Doris Day and Kathryn Grayson, and later to a successful TV career as host of "The Merv Griffin Show," which aired for more than 20 years.

His biggest financial break, however, came from inventing and producing "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune."

After they became the hottest game shows in television, Griffin sold the rights to them to the Columbia Pictures Television Unit for $250 million, retaining a share of the profits. He started spreading the sale money around in treasury bonds, stocks and other investments, but quickly became bored.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Merv Griffin, the entertainer turned impresario who parlayed his "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" game shows into a multimillion-dollar empire, has died. He was 82.

ah yes, Pat Sajak is not my favorite game show host, that is true. Nice enough guy but just not my cup of tea, so to speak. For names of game show hosts, though, Wink Martindale always stands out!
