It is not crazy; it is the "Heroine's Journey" -- the romantic analogue to the "Hero's Journey" of classic literature. If you read any Harlequin Romance paperback at random, you are likely to find the same story told only with different characters. Someone once wrote a parody called "Browbeaten Heights" that hit all the tropes of the romance (a.k.a., "Bodice-Ripper") genre. I cannot find it, but I'd sure like a copy if anyone has it.
