Netflix made a TV show about Selena. I don’t understand why they did this. Is anyone watching Selena?

Because she was an attractive young woman who was murdered by her manager over money. She was a very good singer by what I've read. Her death was a loss to the music industry.

Gunned down in a motel.
There is an ocean front gazebo with a bronze statue of her in Corpus Christi, Tx

I hear the movie is better than the show

Some say that she was on her way to becoming the "next Madonna".

I dont think that, but she might well have become the Tex-Mex equivalent of Gloria Estefan (bridging Mexican pop with Anglo North American pop the way GE did with Afro Cuban pop and north american pop).

There was already good biopic major motion pic made of her, starring Jennifer Lopez in the title role around the year 2000.

Apparently, there is still a lot of profit to be made from the image surrounding those bones.
