Are anthology TV series a group of episodes of short films?

The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Outer Limits are anthology series. I just want to know are they. Thanks.

According to Wikipedia:

In book publishing, an anthology is a collection of literary works chosen by the compiler; it may be a collection of plays, poems, short stories, songs or excerpts by different authors. In genre fiction, the term "anthology" typically categorizes collections of shorter works such as short stories and short novels, by different authors, each featuring unrelated casts of characters and settings, and usually collected into a single volume for publication.

So if you apply this definition to short films, then I would say The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Outer Limits fit the definition. I make no judgement on Night Gallery because I don't think I watched that series.

This would be in contrast with a TV series with a related casts of characters such as The Big Bang Theory which would not be considered an anthology.

Why is that some anthology TV series have short films?

When you think about The Twilight Zone, every story is complete in and of itself. Whereas in a TV series, such as the Big Bang Theory, every episode is a continuation and does not stand alone.

In an anthology, every episode can have different actors and actresses, different plot lines.
In a non-anthology, if you watch episode 47 without watching the previous 46 episodes you may find yourself lost.

Well. I am thinking about doing an anthology series.

I remember watching a long film once. It was about 8 hours long. They broke it up into pieces and showed the film over several days. It was semi-historical and covered about 500 years of history wrapping it with a little bit of fiction.

The film had many different characters, different plots in an almost endless series of stories, like short stories.

One might even refer to the entire film as an anthology.

The theme is cursed objects.

I wonder what kind of objects.

When I was in my first year of high school, I had a Spanish teacher. She was young and pretty. Her father had been an ambassador in a South American Country. He would sometimes receive gifts. She brought one of these gifts to class as a show-and-tell. She passed it around the class. It was a real life shrunken head. It was very light in weight.

The objects are a cursed video, cursed text messages and a cursed haunted hotel room.
