Amazon's prices have gone way up and they mainly operate like ebay, where they only have it if someone is selling it, but is there a way to order directly from the manufactures, rather than rely on a source like Amazon?

Some DVD/Blu-ray labels allow you to buy directly from them. It tends to be independent labels aimed at the collector's market that will allow you to do this rather than the major Hollywood studios though.

Are there any places in your area where you can buy DVDs or Blu-Rays for cheap prices?

If yes, then I suggest you go there first.

Well they don't have older movies or foreign films, which I often like.

ironpony, have a look at these labels I've linked to below and see if there's anything that interests you:

Criterion Collection

Kino Lorber

Shout Factory

Criterion are quite pricey but the other two have some reasonably priced stuff.

There are still stores in my area that buy and sell and trade used DVDs, bluerays, and CDs. And vinyl records too.

And I get catalogs that sell physical media.
