texas chainsaw massacre - there's rarely a film that, after 50 years, still can be considered a real shocker - I mean, every zombie-based videogame now outdoes Night of the living dead (except for the very ending, of course).
But TCM is not just horrifuing, it's also weird. Really, really weird. Only on my third voewing or so did I realise that the constant chainsaw just cuts out whenever Leatherface actually catches up to his victim and butchers the person. And that vacuum of chainsaw noise is so awfully effective, as a soundscape, but also such a weird decision to make...

Sometimes what you dont see is even scarier than what you do see.

I don't watch a lot of horror movies, but The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2 relied more on intellect and dialogue than gore, which IMO made them more like thrillers.

Both movies are definitely worth your time.

The same with It: Chapter 1 and It: Chapter 2.

However, regardless if you have the patience or not, remember
that It: Chapter 2 is almost three hours long.

Also consider watching The Invisible Man and The Lighthouse.

Halloween, and most of the sequels (but it really depends on what kind of mood I'm in).
Dawn of the Dead. I like the rest of the movies too, but Dawn is far and away my fav.
Does the original Japanese Godzilla count? The original King Kong?
Ring, Spiral, Ring 0. Too bad the rest of the books will never get films.
The Child's Play/Chucky movies. I'm pretty excited about the TV series coming out soon.
The first two Texas Chainsaw movies. I still need to watch 3 and 4, but I'm ready for disappointment.
Black Christmas (the original)
Troll 2
Manos: The Hands of Fate
Just about anything with Vincent Price.
Just about anything by John Carpenter.

Oh gosh, I just tried to go to Film Aficionado to remember what all DVDs I own, and forgot that it shut down last year :(

I'll have to look through my shelves tomorrow and probably update. I'm sure I'm forgetting some real good ones.

The second movie is a lot weirder. I love it.

Seeing giant monsters destroy cities used to scare me as a kid, so I'd say yes. :)

And you mentioned Manos: The Hands of Fate. Are you by chance a Mystery Science Theater 3000 or Rifftrax fan too? 8)

Edit: I forgot to add Rosemary's Baby to my list.

The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock is IMO is more scary than Psycho.

(Sorry fellow Hitchcock fans, IMO Psycho is just overrated despite great performances.)

does "The Rocky Horror Show" count?
my fave is prolly "The Exorcist" followed by "Reanimator" (uncut version), the latter is delightfully rude

Hiya! 8)

And I understand, but I know you sometimes like funny horror. Trust me Bride of Chucky is much more tongue in cheek than the other Child's Play movies. And Jennifer Tilly is a doll! (Pun intended )

You definitely should, Brother Spades! :D

Eraserhead by David Lynch and Videodrome by David Cronenberg
are also worth a watch as are Get Out and Us both by Jordan Peele.

Yes, but I actually kind of like the movie without any riffs  I feel like there's almost a decent movie hiding under there, they just need to tighten up the editing a bit. I don't think it's intentional, but there's something real unsettling about the film.

It was hard to decide if I wanted the remastered BluRay of the movie, or if I wanted the Rifftrax Live DVD (which I did see at the theatre...twice I think?)...well, Rifftrax 20% off sale + free gift cards kind of helped make the decision for me.

All of them are pretty goofy from that point forward.

There are some movies like that on MST3K that I feel I could watch without all the riffs like Angel's Revenge and Jack Frost. :D

Some of those movies really are "So bad they're good". 8)

I absolutely LOVE horror films! Here are some of my favorites:

Reanimator.
The Thing (John Carpenter remake).
The Hitcher (original).
Angel Heart.
From Beyond.
Cthulhu.
Nosferatu (original).
The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari (original and remake).
The Wolfman (Original).
Color Out Of Space.

I'm sure there are others.
