I've been debating getting XII. Is it worth it? I kind of became disappointed with the final fantasy franchise when X-2 came out. Shudder.

I started with the NES version, skipped the snes ones, and came back on for 7, 8, 9, and 10. All of which I really loved.

I played FF and Kingdom Hearts. Funny thing is that my brother could not beat Sephiroth in KH2 and yet I beat him easily.

Well....The music is great, the storyline is pretty okay. It is
definitely different than X2.....lots of hunting sidequests.

I think Squall from FF8 has Asperger Syndrome. I like FF8 very much because I can relate to Squall. I know most NTs hate FF8 because they think the story is sissy but i think what Squall has accomplished is wonderful for someone who has AS.

I agree that the SNES FFs are RPG Perfection. Most people think FF7 is the best game ever but I disagree with them. FF7 is a very good game. but FF4-6 are the best.

Final fantasy 12 is a great game, I like the change from random encounters to a more seamless combat system. Final fantasy 9 is still my favorite of the series though.

Only played IX, X, and X-2. Only beaten X-2 with a good ending.

I think the FF games all could benefit from some gameplay balancing with level caps and introducing choices about character development that are mutually exclusive; ie either becoming a fantastic swordsman or a master spellcaster, not both. The updated Japanese version seems to be heading towards that sort of system.

I did like FFXII's slow levelling, compared to FFX's blazing levelling speed that had you in menus after virtually every battle.

While these games seem fun to start I usually somehow run out of motivation toward the middle or end. In VII I'm still in the final cave - still haven't seen Sephiroth and still haven't tried.

On XII I got to about...lets see here, I know I got the second Esper so I was at the Holy Mountain, I think I'm back in the main city stocking supplies.

But yeah, good game, just a shame that I have something like videogame ADD - can't finish anything really unless its something like God of War, Resident Evil 4, or something like that.

I like some of the themes that run through all of the games, but I've only played IX. Aside from Kingdom Hearts, it's my favorite RPG. The stories of the others appeal to me less - IX was an amazingly beautiful, delicate game; it was like a fairy tale, but with so many levels of complexity. I identified with Kuja and the Genomes. There's one line in particular that shot straight to my heart and haunted me for years - "I won't let this world exist without me."

I couldn't understand most of the criticism about it, that it was too "childish."

Someone might want to move this to the game's forum where it'll likely get more responses. :)
