I though it was spectacular. Hugh Jackman did a bangup job as a host.

Hollywood engaging in various acts of self-gratification.

Suck it up, Meryl (uttered by Kate Winslet when she won best actress) was a particular lowlight!

Just dumb, what is dumber than celebrities? but you watch it anyway, just for the sheer dumbness of it all. It was on daytime tv here (lunchtime) so it was easy to just wander in and out. Hugh Jackman can't sing.

Absolutely.

Fewer speeches - more film clips. That would have been much better.

And, what was with leaving out people from the memorial (i.e. Harvey Korman)?

I disagree. Hugh Jackman has a lot of talent to spare. He was doing his best to make the show more entertaining than what Jon Stewart or David Letterman did with the hosting gig years ago.

I thought that Hugh did a good job although I didn't like the red carpet show.

Of course. I think there would be riots if he didn't. I thought the Oscars were rather boring this year to be honest. What was with the tiny stage so close to the audience. Were they sizing it down because of the state of the economy?

Hee-hee, "Suck it up Meryl!" XD

I didn't watch it, but my mom thought Hugh was great. As for the awards themselves, it was all what I expected it to be (some of which were to my dismay).

What is this TV of which you speak? Is it some sort of mind control device designed to project inane vaccuousness, self absorbtion and emotional dramatics into my personal space?

When The Dark Knight didn't get nominated for best picture, they lost me as a viewer.

I didn't watch it, wasn't really bothered.

I don't know how they give heath ledger an award if he's dead, it's not as if he knows he's getting an award so what's the point. And I doubt heath ledger's ghost wiill go floating up on to the stage.
Why do they give dead people oscars??

Because him dying has nothing to do with how well he performed? =/ Also, he's only the second person I believe to recieve an Oscar after passing away.

My family and I missed on the first hour of the show. {The news was on.}

Much better than previous years; Bill Condon did a great job reforming it.
And Hugh Jackman did an excellent job hosting; he should be brought back next year.

A few questions.
Firstly, why did the camera cut back and forth
between Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston
when the latter was presenting?

Next, what's the point of the pre-show?

Why was Benjamin Button nominated for 13 Oscars,
when it only received 3?

Why are people still complaning over Heath Ledger receiving a posthumous Oscar?
{Get over it people!}

To clarify, Heath Ledger's receiving a posthumous Oscar
is the second time this happened EVER. The first was in 1976.

Why are people still complaning over Slumdog Millionaire's near-sweep?

I didn't catch this until someone else brought it up. Maybe they were hoping for a cat fight between Brad's current and ex???? :?
