Recommend a film that came out on tape or DVD (if tape I'm sure there's a DVD I can get) so I can get it out at the library

Thanks

I watched Jean de Florette part 1 and 2 back in the 1980's. I really liked them.

Without knowing your preferences my list necessarily reflects my preferences. Of the movies I've cited on the What movies have you seen recently? thread this year, I think the following are the ones I would "inflict" on an audience I was trying really hard to entertain:

The Accountant [2016] About an unlikely but authentic Autistic.
Alien [1979] & Aliens [1992] The entire Predator/Alien franchise has merit but these are likely the best.
Beetlejuice [1988] & Beetlejuice Beetlejuice [2024]
Black Sheep [2006]
Chappie [2015]
Coco [2017]
Diani & Devine Meet the Apocalypse [2016]
District 9 [2009]
Edge of Tomorrow [2014]
Ex Machina [2014]
Juan of the Dead [2011]
Kong: Skull Island [2017] The entire MonsterVerse franchise is very good but this stands out, I think.
Kung Fu Hustle [2004] The post lists two films, I only recommend the second.
Machete [2010] & Machete Kills [2013]
Mars Express [2023]
The Monolith Monsters [1957]
The Munsters [2022]
30 Nights of Paranormal Activity with the Devil Inside the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo [2013]
The Quiet Earth [1985]
Watchmen [2009] Do not judge solely on the first half—polish increases as it moves toward its present.
The Zero Theorem [2013]

All are on disk in our collection.

People on Wrong Planet, if they are on the spectrum, ought to give "Keep the Change" a shot. It about two Aspie's that date in NYC. It is just the best movie ever.

Wicked (2024)

I usually hate musicals, but this one was really really epic.

Civil War (2024 film written & directed by Alex Garland)

This film asks the question: What would the US be like and how would US citizens fare
if a Second Civil War happens?

Excellent performances under the great direction of Alex Garland.

If you intend to get the DVD at the library, can you provide a link to the library, or the name of the library, and I can look it up myself? Of course it is possible that your library does not have its catalog online. In that case, never mind. :)

The Big Country

This is easily my favorite Western movie.

Its actors and actresses include Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston, Charles Bickford, Jean Simmons, Carroll Baker, and Burl Ives.

There appears to be an odd incongruity when the stage enters town. It enters from the top of the screen while a wagon enters from the bottom of the screen and is passed by three riders. But then, it switches to the stage entering the town and the three riders arrive behind the stage.

Has anyone mentioned Blazing Saddles?

Image

If you haven't seen it, this needs to be at the top of your list to see. A DVD is probably the best place to see it.

Although the premiere of the movie was shown at a drive-in movie theater, you rode in on your horse instead of driving in in your car.

By the way, Cinemark showed Blazing Saddles again last September for a special 50th anniversary showing.
