I've been liking these things for a long time and I guess this is the first time unleashing it here on WP:

hey I like these too! I thought about making a quiz where you have to guess the film company from part of the logo or cryptic description of logo.
Which is your favorite?

I've been fascinated with these for quite some time too. My favorite is probably the UBU Productions logo that was at the end of Family Ties (Sit UBU Sit! Good dog! *WOOF*)

Also, was anyone else frightened by some of these logos as a kid? Two that scared me were the 70s/early 80s PBS logo with the tri-colored letters (mostly due to the weird synthesizer music), and the '80s Merv Griffin Enterprises logo with the winking griffin. Some of the others that have frequently scared kids (particularly aspies) are the 60s-70s Screen Gems "S From Hell" and the 70s-80s Viacom "V of Doom".

I love 1980s logos, because the colors are simplistic and I like the way the synthesized music sounds (plus, there were still a lot of them when I was a kid in the '90s, like the WGBH logo). But my favorite logo would have to be the early '90s Universal logo - it has probably my favorite orchestral logo theme.

The Ubu logo is funny.

Does anyone remember the logo to the Video Collection by Thames video? It was around in the 80s, and I used to love it! I have to admit, some logos fascinate me, but others I find disturbing (particularly if I think about them too much). I've never understood why that is, but some of them really creep me out. :? The worst one for me was always the MGM home video logo used in the 80s, which showed a static lion logo zooming out, with a fanfare along with it. That one still freaks me out!

I liked the Thames logo, especially because it was attached to the Benny Hill Show, which I loved even though my parents probably shouldn't have let me watch it (strong sexual content and stuff, you know). One that had a weird effect on me, though, was the Paramount Television logo from the 60s and 70s, on shows like Star Trek and (I think) the Brady Bunch. It's the one where the Paramount name appears on the left side of the screen, and the logo appears on the right side, and then zooms in really fast on the logo part. I kept imitating that zoom-in in front of my bathroom mirror.

I liked a lot the MTM logo from the 80s, which was a knock-off of the MGM logo, with a cat instead of a lion. What I liked was that they would change the logo in funny ways for different shows. On "The White Shadow" the cat would be playing basketball, on "Newhart" it would be Bob Newhart making the "Meow" sound, and on "Remington Steele" the cat would have a pipe in its mouth, and when it meowed, the pipe would fall to the bottom of the screen.

My all-time favourite, though, would probably be the Warner Bros. WB crest, just because I was such a huge fan of Bugs Bunny cartoons. I didn't care much for the way they changed it in the 80s, and I was glad they brought back the original crest in the late 80s.

Yep, those are the two. :) (And that lion still creeps me out! I'll definitely try and see if I can watch it without getting uneasy tomorrow, but even looking at it isn't great this late at night. :P ) Where did you get all these? (And do you have the Japanese "Emotion" production logo? It's so cool, and the music they sometimes use is gorgeous!)
