Hello! Um, for my media course this semester we are studying animation, and I am in the process of completing my oral presentation task, in which I have to analyse an animated film, and have chosen Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, which is my favourite movie (up there with Requiem for a Dream, Taxidermia, Fight Club, Mysterious Skin and Trainspotting...sorry about that, I have a habit of listing my favourite things in groups of five and couldn't resist), and have realised, while studying it for lighting, shot types, visual animation types, etc., that the main character, Flint Lockwood, seems to display many traits of Asperger's Syndrome. I searched his name on Wrong Planet and found an old conversation about Flint Lockwood having Asperger's traits...most of this backed up what I had already come up with myself, which was helpful because it gave my conclusions more credibility, since I'm not sure if I even have Asperger's myself (although, I have written a two-volume list of why I think I do). Anyway, part of the assignment is deciding on why we like (or dislike if that is the case) the film we study, as in why the film appeals to us (speaking, of course, in terms of animation and film techniques), and realised that there are certain elements of the actual film that seem to appeal to me due to the 'Aspergian' traits of my personality, such as the exaggerated facial expressions that make it easier for me to understand the emotions of characters (not that this is a big problem with me, but I am often bewildered by nuances of facial expressions). I would like to bring ideas of child psychology as to why this film is good for children in my speech, and would like to mention Asperger's, if it has any relevance, so I just wanted to know if this film appeals to anyone else due to its Asperger's traits, and if so, why? Please let me know if I am just imagining the link between Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Asperger's - or maybe, due to my recents obsession with 'maybe having Asperger's', I am just relating the film to this topic, as I constantly do with things I am obsessed with. I'd really appreciate anyone's thoughts.

You're not crazy, I have noticed since i have found out about AS and studied up on it (its also kind of a nice obsession, studying HFA and AS and other ASD's) that i find Autistic traits jumping right out at me like a big flashing neon sign.
Like i am currently doing an assignment on male eating disorders (due tomorrow O.O) anyways while i was researching it and writing it keep finding things that just screamed autism in males at me. This no makes me wonder if there a link between so called NT males and eating disorders, are NT males with eating disorders actually autistic's in disguise and such. all these questions now have jumped out at me.

But as far as helping you with your assignment i really don't know much about that film so hence i am sorry i cannot help you =(

Thanks, that's somewhat reassuring. Your assignment seems pretty interesting - I hope you did well in it!

Alas, oh well. I suppose I can just include these links I've found in the 'my opinion' section and hopefully get marked better for adding a psychological side to my analysis - my teacher approves of stuff like that. Thanks for your help anyway!
