Just recently I purchased a copy of the 1987 blockbuster and despite it's cheesiness I thought it was pretty good. I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid. I think it may have been two or three times I saw it and the ultra violence kinda freaked me out, like when that guy had toxic spilled all over him and he broke apart when he was hit by a car. There were two sequels as well. I remember that they weren't that good but I can't exactly remember why. I remember the third one was toned down and more comical or something and the fact that Robocop wasn't played by the same actor from the first two. I remember watching the tv series back in the 90's every Saturday on ITV 1 and I thought it was good. However, the show has recently been rerunning and it's a lot more tongue and cheek than I remember. I also heard theres gonna be a remake in the near future. That sounds like it could be alot of fun.

The original movie was great.

2nd was a bit flabby, less interesting, too long.

3rd was an abomination

The original movie is pretty good-I always liked the commercials and TV programs they showed in the movies reality bubble-the guy yelling how he would buy that for a dollar and the car commercial with the dinosaur-and yes the scene with the toxic waste guy getting hit by a car was disturbing.

RoboCop is underrated, if anything. Everyone praises it, but the praise always seems backhanded. They tend to call it a good cult film or something, but to me, it's an excellent film, period, and much smarter than it's given credit for. The acting, writing, directing, music, and special effects are all terrific, and the satire is often brilliant.

RoboCop 2 is a mess, an equal combination of brilliant and terrible, like a glass of fine champagne that someone pissed in. It's worth watching, at the very least, for the excellent stop motion animation. RoboCop 3 is crap, but I don't hate it as much as everyone else seems to. It was a misguided attempt to make a RoboCop movie that parents would feel comfortable letting their kids see. It's competently made, but the script is crap. I haven't seen any of the TV shows, and based on what I've heard, I'm not missing much.

I watched it recently on Netflix and enjoyed it. It is a very dark movie though.

I managed to get Robocop on Criterion and I think it was worth it. And yes some of the scenes like ED-209 blasting Kenny are extended. Also the death of Alex Murphy.

Somehow Robocop manages to do a lot of things like comment of the culture of the time. Taking jabs at the Auto industry at the time with the 6000 SUX commercial. Or hilarious random moments like Unemployed Person Keva Rosenberg "It's free society but ain't nuthin free".

Also this movie has a solid hero against a very well done villain with Bodicker representing the street level thug as well as a strong corporate master mind Arch-Villain.

Besides all this somehow Robocop manages to have very inspired ideas and dialogue that adds to the movie.

I have not seen that film for years. I always saw it as a tongue in cheek look at the future of our society. The cop was cool and the tv slots on it were great, the villans were real stereotypes. I never saw the follow ups.
