There was this movie which I think appeared in about 2004. It's about a guy who has kept a diary for all his life, and he discovers that whenever he reads a passage he temporarily time-travels back to the moment that the passage describes and he can experience all those things again and make different decisions.

For example, he travels back to when he was very young and he and some of his friends fitted a homemade bomb into a mailbox. He tries to warn the lady that empties the mailbox so she won't die in the explosion. He notices that whenever he relives an experience and he makes a different decision, this influences his life and the lives of his friends dramatically. He is a psychology student at some university and a little "alternative", but when he changes something in his past he suddenly becomes a bagging fraternity member. And when he changes something again, he becomes incarcerated.

Does anyone know what this movie is called? I really liked it, I saw it in a cinema back in 2004 but I've forgotten what the movie is called and I can't find it in the IMDB.com site (there are too many movies having to do with "diary", so that's no use).

Thanks all! Yes, The Butterfly Effect, that's definitely the one. I'm going to download it so I can watch it again. I really liked it.

I couldn't find it on imdb.com. I tried looking for keywords like "diary" and "flashback" but there are too many movies around that have either diaries or flashbacks, so I couldn't see the wood for the trees anymore. Thanks for thinking along with me! :D

I believe that's the movie about Che Guevara. I'd like to see that one too. I like any movie which has motorcycles in it. 8) I remember when it hit the cinemas a few years ago, but somehow I never got round to seeing it.

Nope, not about Che at all. It's about two brothers travelling on a motorbike. Small Spanish-language film. Kinda forgetable and boring at times but it's a good film overall...

Here's another "What is that movie called?" request.

The story goes like this:
A father and his daughter (maybe a son as well?) are out camping. When they wake up one morning, they find everyone else (so there are obviously more people) around them have died and turned to dust. As they journey back home, they find this has happened to everyone who was out in the sun the previous day.

I can't remember much else about the movie, apart from the scene when they find the mother's silk nightgown at the house. I think that's what they find. I was a child when I saw this movie on TV and it obviously made an impression.

Any ideas?

Not Night of the Comet....it's a movie from the 70s, and about a father and daughter, not to Valley girls.

But thanks.

Anyone else know what movie I'm trying to remember?

I was just thinking of the piles of dust :D

1970s.. You'll be thinking of the hilariously bad tv movie 'Where have all the people gone?'.
