I saw Sweeney Todd a week or two ago. I thought it was pretty good, I can't decide if the blood looks really fake or if I just don't know what that much blood looks like in real life so I assume it looks fake. It's a funny story with pleasent cinematography/sets (I like blues and greys), and I like endings where as few people as possible live happily ever after.

Has anyone else seen it?

I've seen it. I enjoyed myself even though I think the idea of a pre-recorded musical is strange. I thought the opening animation could have been better. I loved the costuming and sets. The cast was brilliant, Helena Bonham Carter was very believable as Mrs. Lovett and I saw the original production on Broadway. I'd say if you had to make this musical into a film he did a great job.

absolutely brilliant. i've had the music stuck in my head since i saw it. Johnny Depp singing "My Friends" sends chills up my spine. who knew he was such a good singer?

I agree about the opening animations.

And it is suprising that Depp can sing. For a moment I thought someone else was dubbed over him, but then abandoned that thought.

Also, did anyone else predict who the old woman was and what would happen to her?

Loved it, loved it, loved it! XD

By far Burton's best film since "Sleepy Hollow." (Yeah, I wasn't big a fan of "Big Fish" or "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" or "Corpse Bride.")

Depp was in a band in the eighties I believe. And, no, I didn't see the old woman thing coming. The movie was amazing. Did anybody else kind of relate to Sweeney's character?

I haven't seen it, but because of the writer's strike, it's flopping like crazy!

it's not flopping cause of the writer's strike! it's flopping because of s**t like National Treasure 2, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and I Am Legend. Walk Hard is suffering a similar fate. i'll never understand the movie going public.

Part of the reason why it flopped is because it's rated R. Getting an R rating is an automatic box-office handicap in most cases because a large part of the revenue comes from parents looking for movies to take their kids to, and that means going to kids movies no matter how horrible they are. PG-13 is the safest rating, because it doesn't discourage any particular audience except die-hard gorehounds--many parents will take their kids to PG-13 movies but not R ones. Parents who DO take their kids to R movies are generally terrible, though--I can't tell you how much I hate hearing toddlers cry while I'm watching a really violent movie.

great execution of a dark and melancholy musical.

i knew this was tim bourton's work right when the bloody rain started falling from the sky. :)
i agree about the animation, too.

i was so entranced by the movie that i totally forgot who the old woman was. i remembered right when she wandered into todd's bland barbershop.

I really liked the ending to this movie.. totally brought me by surprise.

It's better than alot of the garbage I've seen as of late, especially I Am Legend :|
