Anyone else remember this UK/US show? I ADORED it! I have all the DVDs (I wonder why it was only $40 for the complete box sets....? LOL) and my son is slowly accepting it as a bone fide programme that was once on the telly.

The episodes I remember the best I thought, until I bought the DVDs, were one episode. I had vague memories of a child who was born on Moonbase Alpha and grew at an alarming rate, and a man-thing, totally black and with glowing eyes. I thought these characters were the same, but they were simply two different characters from successive episodes. Obviously these two episodes - which were not related, but simply came on air one straight after the other - hit me hard.

We got things in NZ later than most countries, so when I spoke about this GREAT sci-fi show to my cousins on my first visit to the States at age eight (in the late 70s), they thought I was very "past it".

I still think many of the effects and story-lines were clever, especially considering budgets for sci-fi TV shows were not high those days (still suffering in many ways).

Yes it is being re run on one of our digital channels, they had top italian designers design the costumes it was a groovy show.
Does seem a bit dated now though.

i remember one in which find a mass of space ships all joined together by their SASs, floating in space, dead/empty/abandoned. And when join up too etc they discover a strange hostile alien being, disembodied (?)/tentacular (?), comes through, or something. It made a big impression on me. I thought it was a great series although i only ever saw about 3 or 4 of them cos was at a neighbours, and we weren't allowed to watch stuff like that at home!!

I seem to remember they started to re-run it here (UK) in 1999, as some sort of clever twist, so we could see how much further ahead people were thinking than actually developing. I can vaguely remember it, it must have been fairly good, because I watched it all. I put it in the same category as Land of the Giants, Planet of the Apes, and Captain Scarlet. Stuff that should not be messed with or remade.

I'm scared to watch it in case it spoils the memories but it's so cheap that it's very tempting. How does it hold up these days?

watched it on and off. I remember some female alien getting cozy with the Captain. There's 3d models of the ship, weapons, etc., I see around sometimes...

I used to watch that show, too. There was a dearth of good SciFi on American TV, never has been much available, SciFi seems to have come in spurts, then goes away.

I think I watched it more because it was almost the only available SciFi show, than because it appealed deeply to me. I didn't feel a deep appeal, and the only thing bad about it for me was the same thing bad about Battlestar Galactica -- namely, one was stuck in the same old scene, every episode, and this makes it more difficult to get real variety on a show, much harder to write good stories within a limited setting, as opposed to something like Dr. Who, where the show could be set anywhere in Time and Space, or Star Trek with it's more varied stories and locales.

Um....it holds up alright, really. Iffen you get past how far SFX have come in 30+ years, that is. Too many people forget that SFX from that era of television shouldn't really be compared with those of today. The storylines were original, the acting pretty good to excellent, and the whole thing was just good fun!

I got my box sets from an EzyDVD store in Brisbane, so I guess you could order them, if not actually find them, in Sydney.

Yes.Brings back memories.
I saw it in NZ at around the same time, at around the same age, nzfiona.
I loved it,although maybe because I was allowed to stay up late?
I mainly remember it because it was
a.)scary
b.)the whole idea of actually living in space
c.)the spaceships
d.)I was in love with the dark-haired alien woman

Definitely on my to-do list!
