Any fans?

I'm a fan myself, first watched the movie, then watched the shows.

But I always wondered why in that one episode, Saved, why is it that Shepherd's Identcard got him fast treatment on Magellean?

My hunch.....
he used to be a soldier, and then became a Shepherd, and as such his rank when he became a Shepherd was high enough.

Any other hunches out there?

Great show, never got to see all the eps. Serenity is classic.

Jayne kicks ass - same actor played Animal Mother in "Full Metal Jacket". "I'll be in my bunk."

One thing about the show: HATED the theme song, way too hokey, but I LOVED the incidental music.

Also liked the lack of sound effect in the vacuum of space, one thing that always got on my nerves.

Just as in Buffy, the fella that wrote it is brilliant at setting the scene and story-line for something that happens many episodes down the line.

A shame the series got cancelled before all those good stories panned out.

After watching the series and the movie, I got the impression that Shepherd Book may well have been an Operative with divided loyalties.

I loved Firefly, also watched the movie before the series (and I wish it had been the other way around).

I know there are some graphic novels. maybe they filled in a bit of Shepard's story? I doubt it though, considering his conversation about his past with Mal in the movie.

A friend referred me to it before the movie came out, so I bought the series and watched it twice before watching the movie.

Brilliant.

Shepherd book was always an enigma and I was sad to see what happened in the movie because I really wanted to know his story.

Perhaps they could do a flashback? or backstory - meet someone who knew Shepherd one day, if it ever becomes uncancelled...

Probably one of the best shows of this decade. I remember refusing to watch any FOX shows for three weeks after it got cancelled in protest.

I hated how FOX aired the episodes out of order.

I hate how US TV is so ratings driven.

Crap like Law and Order get a multitude of spinoffs and season because they're dumb enough to appeal to the masses.

Similarly shows like the Simpsons and South Park get long runs because they're fairly popular with the masses and very cheap to make. (I don't have anything against these, but like all shows, they have good and bad episodes).

Then we have the Niche shows, like Firefly.

and the only other US show I've liked in years... Carnivale.

Yeah. the biggest sitcom in America is "Two and a Half Men" which is a terrible, terrible show (not as awful as "Cavemen" though). I'm really happy that "30 Rock", "The Office" and "Pushing Daisies" are getting good ratings and have been critically favored, which they deserve.

I haven't watched the office because I like the British version and don't want it spoilt.

Is it basically the same story?

you're missing a great show. It's the only American version of a British show that not only does it right, but better (really!).
The first episode is the only one based on any British script, otherwise the story is "similar but different".
The first season was kinda lackluster (still pretty funny) but since then, it's been really great. You owe yourself to watch the US "Office" (in fact the worst episode of the US version is the first one)

I'm a big fan of Firefly/Serenity and Joss Whedon in general. Love Buffy, Angel, Sugarshock and all that good stuff.

About the Shepherd Book thing, his past will be told in a limited comic book series called "Shepherd's Tale" which will probably be coming out after "Better Days".

Personally I can't stand the Office, but I did like HBO's 6 feet Under, Big Love and Oz . . .
