The last one I saw that actually came to theaters was Howl's Moving Castle, and I loved it. That being said, I saw Digimon in the theater three times and am not ashamed!

I loved Howl's moving castle. I had to watch it at home though because I can't tolerate cinemas.

Only anime movie I ever saw IN THEATRES was the yugioh movie, it was crap. My favorite part was the free card I got for going.

I have seen a few of the pokemon movies at home, though, Pokemon the 1st Movie was my favorite. I love scenes with 2 incredible powers battling, and general powerful moments. Every time I saw it, I would get chills when Ash walked out, followed by all the Pokemon, and said "You can't do this, I won't let you". Mew and MewTwo charging at each other was pretty cool, too.

Which theatres?

I saw Sen to Chihiro / Spirited Away at a movie theatre in Japan in 2001. And Neko no Ongaeshi (which is The Cat Returns) also at the same theatre the following year. The first was better than the second, but both were good.

There were heaps of anime movies coming out there -- I recall Inuyasha had one but I didn't see it until much later.

So honestly I'm not sure what you mean.

Heh, mine too.

In movie theaters though, I haven't seen many anime movies. I've seen one of those Pokemon movies with my brother, and I've seen Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. I'd say Spirited Away was my favorite.

The only anime movie I've actually seen in theaters was Pokemon in 1999 (Right? Too lazy to fact check now.).

I've seen a few theatrically-released films on DVD, though. Nausicaä, Akira, Spirited Away, and Steamboy come to mind.

Yes, I do admit i saw the first Pokemon movie the day it came out, and six more times after that. I am ashamed by it. I really, really am. Seven times. My dad proclaims I nearly bankrupted him with my Pokemon habit between 1998 and 2001 and I believe him. I never saw another Pokemon movie and stopped watching the series during the Orange Island episodes (where it jumped the shark, despite the fact that the show wasn't very good. I'm so happy I got into "Fooly Cooly".) and haven't played a game since Crystal. I stopped caring about Pokemon entirely around August of 2001 or so.
The shame is now that everyone thinks anime is for children because of Pokemon and Naruto (which I know almost nothing about), and the horrible Americanization of Cardcaptors (they turned it into an action series! that not what it's about!).

Most dubs aren't very good of most anime i've seen, with a few exceptions (Last Exile, the original Zoids, Fooly Cooly, Read or Die/Read or Dream), and I mostly watch it with subtitles.

I really haven't seen many anime movies in theaters, mostly on DVD. I dunno what the last one I saw was, probably something by Miyazaki, I guess. "Spirited Away" sounds about right.
