Would you watch this
Set in a world, where a massive war had set technology back to the dark ages, with only lost technology as proof there was anything before. Humanity wiped out by the demons that now rule the Earth, and just like the feudal era of so many nations society is based on a caste system with the Emporer and the seven demon lords as the undisputed rulers. The weak peasents doing what they can to make the best life they can, hoping they dont attracte the ire of the nobility.
The story follows a theif named Avarous, who is weak even by peasent standards. His theft and usage of ancient human weapons quickly raised him as the most infamous criminal alive. So much so that the lords themselves wish to defeat him. Avarous' motivation a mystery as he seeks out new artifacts. Although a loner, and a selfish one at that, he does attract allies. Each joining for their own reasons ranging from a dog demon's missplaced loyalty to a rebel spiritualist merely aiding Avarous in the hopes he will provide a way to kill the mighty Emporer. Thus Avarous continues to collect artifacts, looking for his personal holy grail, and doing all he can to survive on this demon controlled planet.
and thats bad because? Was a good movie, second one was atleast
Besides, course it does. Its a logical way to create a high fantasy story that incorperates advance technology. Advance time, let society self destruct, set things in the aftermath. Though I cant recall the last time I've heard of any story which had humans as an extinct race. Dont get me wrong, sure there are, but I'd hardly say its a common theme

I never said it was bad, I was just pointing it out. I tend to reserve judgement. Is Avarous physically weak or just socially weak?

Physically? Oh yea, big time. Compared to higher castes his physical abilities are nothing, and even to his own caste he is about half that.
Socially, well he is used to simply blending in. Though dispite his physical and social weaknesses he comes off as self confident to the point of arrogance. So its abit of a hard call. As a rule he likes being alone, and is rather selfish prefering to just avoid social interactions.
Though if you meant his social standing in society. Bottom of the barrel. When the Empire was formed the strongest demons took command, thus becoming the highest ranks. Of course their decendents were also strong. Noble families have powerful members, thus the relative power of a demon and his caste are one in the same.
Exception being spiritualists, but thats another subject
Throwing in the dog-demon and spiritualist seems to indicate you're an Inu-Yasha fan as well.
But hey, considering how bloated with mythologies our pop-culture is, it's probably impossible to do something TOTALLY original that people could actually relate to. My dream novel (another thread) follows Roger Corman's philosophy that no one can accuse you of ripping off any particular story if you rip off ten at once.
Your idea has potential, with an interesting underdog concept. Just make sure you think out exactly what technologies are still in use, lost but fully understood, or semi-mythical. That way you can routinely use it for comic relief. Like the one episode of Thundercats where we learn that, in their distant future universe, soap is now a closely guarded secret weapon available only to the galaxy police.
Yes, soap.
Sadly, the show never fully explored that idea.

Not really an inuyasha fan, I mean it started ok, but really ran itself into the ground. On the dog demon thing, I selected dog because they best embody the concept of loyalty and protective attitude, which is what the character needs. I do agree though that, even if you dont base your idea off of something, chances are someone has done something simular.
Lost technology is rather litteral. The demons didn't really learn alot about it before wiping out humanity, and even with lost artifacts its far beyond what they can reverse engineer. Lost technology often comes in two varieties.
Broken, only a fraction of whats found is in working condition. Most artifacts are given to collectors or museums as historical relics. Although there are probably others besides Avarous that can repair human artifacts, no one flaunts this ability. Human technology is highly regulated so the price for breaking the laws are big, and having working artifacts is often too big of an advantage to let out.
Working technology is rare, valueable, and even more regulated. Most of it is in the capital city where most of the rich and powerful live. The level of the technology is usually either from the industrial revolution when machines were durable and simplistic or its from a period in our future where the technology is less ancient and more common, thus increasing the chance something survived.
Technology, be it working or broken, is common enough that it nearly all sentient demons know of it. However its so regulated and uncommon to have it working that it can't really help their society as a whole. Just raise comfert of living to the few that are lucky enough to own it. They dont know how exactly it works, they are just happy it still does.
Shall I assume you've seen all of his early work, including Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, and Brain Dead/Dead Alive?
