Yep, I've read Sandman, though it's been a bit. I own all the graphic novel collections, and have even dressed up as Death for Halloween :) .

I never read Gaiman's novels, I've heard bad reviews, people have said that he can't write real novels and that his books are all rejected scripts for his comics. I keep meaning to see what they're like.

Heh.

I actually prefer Gaiman's novels to his short stories, but that's me. I think "Neverwhere" was his best, but I like "American Gods" quite a bit because I can see a lot of myself in the main character, Shadow.

Yes, I have read, and own both of the Death novels. I wasn't too impressed by the second one, but I really love the first.

Actually , they were comic books. The "graphic novels" are simply collections of the comic in one volume. Don't believe me? Go to any comic shop and look in the back issue section under "S". Or ask Neil Gaiman - he hates the term "graphic novel", if you read the Sandman companion you'd know that!

found the quote on his site.....

"Neil Gaiman (author, Sandman for DC Vertigo) once bumped into a critic at a social event. The critic asked what he did for a living, and Gaiman mentioned he was a comic book writer. At first the critic didn't seem remotely impressed--in fact, the response was a bit ho-hum. He asked what titles. Gaiman told him.

To which, this critic said 'you don't write comics! You write Graphic Novels!' Gaiman swiftly corrected him. His dream was to write American comic books, and this is what he has done."

He was on the history of comic books and they used both terms to define his books and why I said graphic novels is everybody like in anime judge it not by what it is but by what other titles went under its name for example lots of people judge anime by watching pokemon so all anime is childish or stupid with comics they judge comics the exact same way so to make people think different of it we called them Graphic novels to make them not to think comics it must be stupid so we call them graphic novels not that i am saying comics are stupid or childish same with anime i love them both it just that a lot of people judge them that way

p.s I know he said that it just that people go like what its a comic book it must not be that good so I say graphic novel instead :)

hey anime freak I didn't mean to get at you. I just find the phrase "graphic novel" pretty funny.

Anyway, what's your favourite issue of Sandman? Mine is the one where the boy is stuck in the English boarding school full if the ghosts of the previous students,,,,that freaked me out SO much the night I read it!

I've read "Dream Hunters," I loved it. I also really admire Amano's work, so it was a match made in heaven, in my eyes.

I haven't read Mr. Punch.

Has anyone else read the most recent Sandman collection, "Endless Nights"? It features a different story for each of the Endless, each story illustrated by a different artist.

There are a lot of storylines I like, but my favorite remains to be volume seven of the collections.
