I didn't know it was a remake!
I've never seen
Deliverance but on the scale of rape-revenge movies the original 1978 picture was quite something. Not because it was any good as a film but simply because of the extreme and visceral imagery that is employed for the scenes of violation. For this year's DVD release of the original the BBFC demanded nearly three minutes of cuts to this film - no mean feat, considering some of the material they've passed uncut over the past couple of years.
I'd try the uncut (i.e.
not the cut US or UK versions) version of
Death Wish II (incidentally, Michael Winner, the director of
Death Wish II visited my local pub and later took considerable delight in slagging it off in a TV programme) then I suggest you'll do OK with the remake of
I Spit On Your Grave. The UK DVD release of
Death Wish II still suffers nearly four minutes of cuts and I can't see the number of cuts sharply lessening any time soon because the rape scenes are so luridly exploitative.
If you want a litmus test try the uncut edition of
Death Wish II and come back to me afterwards.
