So... Being a long time Hellsing fan (and a fan of vampires in general), I've heard about a "cult classic" called Vampire Hunter D. Have any of you ever seen the movies, read the manga, or read the novels? If so, did you like it? Do you think D is a cool character? And, of course I have to ask... If D and Alucard ever got into a fight, which one do you think would win?

I've read the first novel. It's okay, for a vampire/post-apocalyptic novel.

D...is a cool customer. I'm not convinced I actually like him as a character, but he is very compassionate.

As for Alucard and D fighting, it'd be a bit of a family feud if you get my meaning. I;d say the two may be evenly matched, although D....but I won't spoil that.

Vampire Hunter D is very good, but it's very different from Hellsing in style and tone, as it takes itself a lot more seriously and avoids Hellsing's over-the-top feel in favour of brooding angst (at least in the case of the second Vampire Hunter D movie, Bloodlust).
Since Alucard has a considerably greater amount of powers, I believe he'd win.

Thanks for your responses!

D... Is compassionate? I wouldn't have guessed that from looking at him. That's good news, because I love a tough character who has a bit of softness as well! And yeah, I get what you mean by "family feud". ^^

Alucard. That guy's ridiculously overpowered.

To be honest, it's been too many years since I've seen Vampire Hunter D to make a fair judgement on it. I remember it being one of my more favored films back when the Sci-Fi channel showed an anime film every Saturday morning.

Yeah, but that's what makes him cool. However...

SPOILERS for latest manga chapters:

Alucard dies, because the Major uses Schrodinger to 'poison' him. Although, the Major notes that the victory was 'almost too easy', so there's a chance Alucard could come back to life.

Yeah, well...

Alucard has such an ego on him, he'd be able to transcend quantum uncertainity.

It's funny because it's true.
