I like how he justifies it by unseeing the word,"provoked".....she made him do it!! !!Where have I heard excuses like this before?oh,yeah......rape,murder....What he was basically talking about and I have heard from other males....is that women have better verbal skills then a lot of men and when the guy cant come up with the right words to justify his side of the argument...the fists come out.Then again,if she is allowing it and stays with him....it makes sense that he would see his behavior as acceptable because it is being excepted.
And just to be a complete contrarian,I have been in to situations where a guy has hit me and I was using words against them as weapons...they were both drunk and couldnt get me to be quiet any other way...although I didnt stay in either relationship....I did think I was partially at fault....I was trying to hurt them with my words and they were defending themselves the only way they knew how...poor dumb beasts that they were at the time....they never did it on any other occasion and they were not generally controlling or insensitive people.(thats my confession)
I would say that men have a right to hit any female who is attacking them first....we all have a right to defend ourselves.
