One thing I hate about Hollywood is the fact that great movies often fall through the cracks. Are there any movies you like that few people know about? Here are some of mine (note: this time, I think plot descriptions should be permitted)
Singles (think Friends in Seattle)
The Spitfire Grill (a female criminal reforms and helps run a restuarant. Great redemption story)
The Watcher in the Woods (you won't believe this is a Disney movie when you watch this)
Cube (8 people are trapped in a booby-trap filled, cubic, maze-like building)
Evolver (a toy robot that was originally designed for the military creates havoc because it can't lose and "evolves" every time you play. I put evolves in quotes because it's more like the robot merely adapts. Jon DeLancie, who played Q on Star Trek: TNG, plays the robot's inventor.)

The Station Agent.

Ok so it's sentimental and a bit aimless, but that's part of the appeal. I like the fact that it celebrates unconventional people. The humour is subtle but brilliant, too.

This is a good idea. Many of the films I would recommend are very old. But they should be found on DVD or VHS.

I have some suggestion for now, Two little forgetten jewels:

"Wanda", Barbara Loden (wife of Elie Kazan) made only this little film in a Cassavetes style, 1970
DVD.

"Little fugitive" "A lyrical serio-comedy from the writing/directing team of Ray Ashley, Morris Engel and Ruth Orkin, The Little Fugitive stars young Richie Andrusco as Joey Norton, a seven-year-old Brooklynite left in the care of his 12-year-old brother Lennie (Ricky Brewster)" 1954, DVD, b/w.

Scarface(1932)-My all time favourite film, by far. I love this movie, and watch it at every opportunity possible. Please watch this film.
Penn and Teller Get Killed(1991?)-My favourite comedy film. Endlessly funny, got more offensive with time, and it has an amazing ending.

Singles, Spitfire Grill and Ghost World are fairly popular. (I can't hear Paul Westerberg's "Dyslexic Heart" without reminding myself of Singles, in fact.)

My favorite unknown film is "And God Spoke." Think "This Is Spinal Tap" meets "The Ten Commandments" as two filmmakers try to do a big biblical movie on an amateur budget. Then imagine Soupy Sales as Moses coming down the mountain with two tablets under one arm...and 12 cans of Coca-Cola under the other.

Sir Anthony Hopkins should have won Best Actor for "Remains of the Day," but they had to give it to pretty boy Tom Hanks for the second year in a row for "Appolo 13."

This is a tough one... I'll probably have to say Waiting for Guffman and the other films of Christopher Guest. That's the closest I could think of.

Not 'little known' but some of my favourites which i think are under-rated:

Magnolia
Ed Wood
Bad Timing
Remains Of The Day
Pi
Momento
Play It Again Sam
Team USA: World Police
Factotum
The Libertine

All for now.. ask me tomorrow & you'd get a different list.

Körkarlen. Swedish silent movie from 1921(I think) about a drunkard who dies on midnight on new-years eve, and so must take over the role of Grim Reaper. Great story, and cool special effect for a movie that's almost 90 years old.

Electric Dragon 80000 Volt. Japanese movie about a guy who can channel electricity with his body facing off with a technogenius in Tokyo. Hilarious and awesome on all levels. Great music too.

Black cat, white cat. A quite odd love story among very interesting gypsies.

The Navigator
The Cube
The Mission
Winter People
The Power Of One

I like a lot of old B&W Hollywood movies. Some of the overplayed drama queen scenes are hilarious, but many are realistic/surealistic, too. The lighting was often spectacular.
