I don't know much about it because I only saw a sneak peek trailer, but it looks interesting, its supposed to come out next summer I think.

Comes out about May 2009 I believe...it was originally going to be Christmas this year but they delayed it to avoid competition with other films. Not really much of a Trek fan...

I've known about this for quite a while. In fact most people who'd wanted to already had - from Ain't It Cool News.

Simon Pegg from "Shaun of the Dead" is playing Scotty in it. That should be highly interesting.

I recently saw the teaser trailer which shows the Enterprise from the 1960s Star Trek being built in an orbital shipyard.

I'm not a Trekkie but I have seen most of the Star Trek movies. Probably will see the next one.

I'd be interested in seeing John Cho's interpretation of Sulu. And who will play the delightful Pavel Chekhov? Someone we know? Come to think of it I don't know of any young Russian actors. Meh, probably some American doing a phony accent. I wonder what the tone will be, goofy or serious or both?

I still can't believe the dude who plays Sylar on "Heroes" is playing Spock. I did like the Pegg/Scotty casting though.

It's being handled by JJ Abrams, the guy behind "Lost," "Alias," and "Mission:Impossible III."

Well then as a Trekkie, let me apologize for all the odd numbered original cast films. It's the least I could do.

Anton Yelchin (of "Charlie Bartlett" and "Alpha Dog" fame) will be playing Pavel Chekov (Yelchin was born in what is now St. Petersberg, so they're actually getting a real Russian, but Walter Keonig WAS the son of Lithuanian immigrants).

Ooooohhh I really wish they would do a voyager film cause the last episode was a bit lacking in my opinion. Maybe they could have it about how they adjusted to life in star-fleet. You know with lots of drama, than they end up saving the federation from the borg.

What Star Trek needs to do is go further into the future with a new series... It's time for some new ground, not rehashing TOS...

I think "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" is very good. Why don't you like it?

I agree. I never liked TOS much. But it hasn't been the same without Gene Roddenberry. The Next Generation was great, DS9 was ok, Voyager was inconsistant and didn't feel like Star Trek, and Enterprise was freaking terrible. Nemesis and Insurrection weren't great films, either. In my opinion the last great Trek property was the film Star Trek: First Contact...well, unless you count the game Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force, which was awesome.

They just need to have real writers who really get what Trek is all about. It's cerebral. It's philosophical. It's about imagining a future of pacifism, of logic and science and compassion, a world where technology and everyday morality have both progressed to the point where money is no longer necessary. Such a future that is becoming increasingly hard to imagine--the writing of it was never the same after Bush became president. Enterprise just didn't get it. Enterprise was just always about dangerous aliens or diseases coming to kill us. Voyager was handled better (better acting and scripts) but had the same problem, focusing too much on Borg attacks and what not. Granted, First Contact was all about one big Borg attack, but it was handled so perfectly and with enough twists that it felt like so much more, even if it wasn't particularly philosophical.

So I'm not sure I necessarily want a new Trek series...at least not unless new people are handling it, people who understand what Star Trek is about better than the guys who have been handling it after Roddenberry's death. (I forget their names...Berman and something? I don't know.) At least this new Trek film is being handled by someone new....

making a voyager film is a bit silly because the voyage is finished
ending the enterprise series in a movie would be better then just rehashing TOS in the new film
i feel some stuff was left out of the enterprise series that could be put in a movie like they did with the stargate movie to fill up the gaps of the ori
