I don't know what say about it, but it's certainly disturbing.

No wonder it was banned.

Didn't seem any more disturbing then some of the stories in the bible that I read as a kid. God was always wiping out large groups of people and turning them into salt pillers and inflicting them with diseases to test their faith(Job), and letting his own son be beaten and nailed to a cross.....brutal stuff.

See, I would have loved this at age 10 or so.

Freaky is cool. 8)

Oh, and not all cartoons, claymation is meant for kids. Just like all anime is not mean for kids either.

Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and Rebecca Thatcher, on a round the universe trip with Samuel Clemens. I would love to have a copy of the whole thing.

There was a link in the "related videos" that had some more info. Apparently the clip is based on a story by Mark Twain called _The Mysterious Stranger_ (link); part of a film called _The Adventures of Mark Twain (link)_,.

Wiki's summary of the actual story is a lot more interesting than the clip itself:

Quote:
...one day, a handsome teenage boy named Satan (of the same angelic family, but not the real Satan, he tells them—actually, his nephew) appears, and performs several magical feats. Satan shares his ability to foresee the future and informs the group of unfortunate events that will soon befall those they care about. Of course, they don't believe the premonitions and it takes one of the predictions coming true to make believers out of them. Satan proceeds to inform them of each new tragedy that will befall their friends. The boys beg Satan to intercede, which he does but always from a cynical, technical definition of mercy; i.e. instead of a lingering death or multiple deaths, someone they care for will die immediately.

Mayhem ensues — witch trials, burnings, hangings, deaths, mass hysteria, and redistribution of wealth. Satan vanishes with a brief explanation:

Quote:
In a little while you will be alone in shoreless space, to wander its limitless solitudes without friend or comrade forever--for you will remain a thought, the only existent thought, and by your nature inextinguishable, indestructible. But I, your poor servant, have revealed you to yourself and set you free. Dream other dreams, and better!...You perceive, now, that these things are all impossible except in a dream. You perceive that they are pure and puerile insanities, the silly creations of an imagination that is not conscious of its freaks - in a word, that they are a dream, and you the maker of it. The dream-marks are all present; you should have recognized them earlier. It is true, that which I have revealed to you; there is no God, no universe, no human race, no earthly life, no heaven, no hell. It is all a dream - a grotesque and foolish dream. Nothing exists but you. And you are but a thought - a vagrant thought, a useless thought, a homeless thought, wandering forlorn among the empty eternities!

I'd say the filmmakers failed at remotely getting an idea like that across. It's a lot more than "evil forces cause bad stuff to happen to people."

in one of the videos of youtube that shows this, you can see the face of a devil, almost subliminal, around the point after the towers start falling.

I'll watch this specific one and see if I can't find it and tell you what time it shows up, if it does.

Edit: I can't find it in this one, and couldn't find the one that I'd seen it in. The reason I say that is because I watched one on youtube that I didn't see the devil face at all, but happened to see it on another, and was able to rewind the vid and see it again (and again and again). Its around the part where the king is at the portcullis waving is scepter and fist in the air and then the lightning bolt hits. Right after the bolt hits. If you do the pause and play method, you may see it.. where the screen goes mostly yellow, (although you can still see the stuff behind it). When I was putting what I saw up for the comment I described it as "the second half of 3:56" or something like that. And it is supposed to be around 3:56 or so.
So maybe somebody will have better luck than me finding it.

I thought somebody would find it interesting.

this was actually NEVER banned. everyone says so, but it's not true. It used to play every moth or so after regular saturday cartoons, before after school specials.
I saw this as a child and loved it. The whole animation is very interesting and entertaining.
I think we underestimate what children can process and understand.
Now children's programing is so banal and simple, they offer no challenge or substance.
I even miss schoolhouse rock!! ! :D

As soon as I saw that youtube video I knew I wasn't going to watch it. That mask/face is too creepy. 8O

Wow, that was fun/interesting/gripping. Just watched it with my 8 year old son, he says it is "Quite good, ... or even ... better than quite good".

Oh, I remember this. XD I didn't think Mark Twain was cool until my parents told me about his views on Christianity. (I didn't like reading Tom Sawyer much.)

If those are Mark Twain's views on Christianity, definitely not cool. Whoever created this claymation short is messed up in the head.

:( :?
