Idea for YouTube channel

I just had an interesting idea for a YouTube channel. What if I were to take popular books, run entire chapters of them through multiple languages on Google Translate, and then record myself reading them? I've seen people do this for songs, but never for books. And I'm told I have a very good voice for recording things. What do you think, could this potentially build a following?

So, essentially an Audio Book?

What would make using YouTube as a medium better than someone just downloading an mp3?

I feel like if there was some VIDEO reason to watch you reading books vs. just hearing your voice, it would be a better differentiator from an Audio Book. If there's something engaging about watching you read, or something going on in the background of your set.. something to make the visual aspect a reason to tune in. Maybe you're well dressed and that's your schtick? Maybe your backdrop is a very soothing environment - much like people watching the "fire channel" during the holidays.

Otherwise it's an Audio Book for those who use YouTube and no other media source, IMO. And maybe that's all it has to be.. maybe no one is making Audio Books for YouTube watchers and that's all you need to do to fill a particular niche no one else has identified on YouTube yet?

Only one way to find out! Pick a book and start recording. Put one out there and see what the response is like. It won't cost you anything but time to try it out and see if you like doing it and better yet if an audience likes watching/listening. Make sure to request watchers' feedback, and then if you get some constructive suggestions, adapt your approach on the next one and so on.

You won't know until you try! Maybe you learn that there's no appetite for such a thing on YouTube.. and if so, that's the success of your project - learning that very thing.

Yep, it'd be an audiobook. But instead of just reading the book, I'd be reading a messed up version. Hopefully it'd be funny. Maybe I'd even put the text in the video so the readers can follow along. I already ran the first chapter through the translator, and here's what came out:

Anyway, some of my friends convinced me to start with my own books and see how that goes. Except, I'm not Google Translating them. I'm just reading them and putting them up as audiobooks. Also, added some cool (non copyrighted) music in as a soundtrack. And thus, this was born!

Listened to a minute or so. I think it sounds ok. But I think starting with your own stories may be a bit too niche, whereas if you read some classic it might help you gain a broader audience a lot faster and easier.

Personally, if I were going to listen to an audio book it would have to be "normal" vs. translated several times and then incomprehensible. I'd just find it annoying. However, some people might find it funny and enjoy it. I'm not one of those people.
