I wonder if they changed the ending, or how the original ending will play with a mass audience. Most people just don't get it.

I think they're cutting out the whole Black Freighter subplot, but reinstating it for the DVD, first as a stand-alone, then as part of the Watchmen DVD. However, I am pretty certain that they will keep the ambiguity of the original ending.

Am I the only person who thinks the ending of watchmen is rubbish? & that in fact Alan Moore, regardless of how wonderful the bulk of his work is, just doesn't do good endings? Everything just ascends into overblown, apocalyptic bombast.

Well the ending did seem really absurd, but when I kept thinking about it, I really couldn't think of a better way it could end. But I don't think it's going to play out well in a movie in any case.

I suppose I shouldn't go into details as people reading the thread might not have read the graphic novel, but I just felt that the whole intricate mystery plot, & the sense that there was a really complex conspiracy behind it, which is maintained throughout the whole book, is really ruined when you discover what the actual & really simple-minded plan is. It felt like a damp squib to me. But everyone else I know who read it seems to think it's great. But yes, maybe everyone will agree with me after the movie. Apparently it sticks very close to the ending.
& I'm surprised by how much I liked the trailer.

Yeah, I saw that - looks interesting. They've been deluging the market with comic book movies, I hope they'll be able to pull it off with something extra.

I felt it was a bit of a let-down or an anti-ending, but I also felt it was deliberate, in that it was kind of... 'this is so wrong... but what's the alternative?'

The "something extra" is the story. It remains one of the best in comic lore. If the film can be like Lord of the Rings with the storyline (the spirit is there with minor adjustments to the material) then you'll see a very special film.

The ending is IMO the most important part. Certain things have to happen in the movie ending for it to stay watchmen. I am a HUGE fan of the orginal book. Been following te devlopment of the movie online. Yes, they are putting out a "tale of the watchmen" DVD the tuesday after the movie opens. It will have the pirate story and alot more backstory with a few of the main characters on it. I have also heard the run time for the movie is going to be about 3 hours. They will also be putting out a ultra extended edtion DVD with the pirate story and that extra stuff from that DVD edited back in. Rumor is the run time for that will be 4.5 hours. I am very impressed with what I have seen so far and I'm looking foreward to this movie.
As far as Alan Moore goes, he has never liked any of his work that they made into movies, he says they are no good and admits he does not even view them. The artist, Dave Gibbons, has been to the set as they filmed and really liked what they were doing.

So, can anyone guess who my favorite character is? LOL

So comparing it to something like Lord of The Rings, it would be like them making a movie out of Dragonlance Chronicles? I'll definitely have to keep my eyes peeled next spring.

I dunno if thats good or bad :?

Why in the hell couldn't they find and ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK?? For a movie that (I predict) is gonna have a lot of hype surrounding it, it should have its own original soundtrack in the trailer.

Zach Snyder has come across as extremely passionate about the material in interviews, and he seems to genuinely get what made the comic great. Everything I've seen so far has shown it to be faithful to the source material and masterfully executed as a film.

As for an original soundtrack, of COURSE there will be an original soundtrack in the actual movie. But this is just a trailer. Film music and trailer music are totally different. Oftentimes the music in the trailer will never appear in the actual movie--that's why "trailer music" artists like X-Ray Dog or Immediate Music exist. The film doesn't come out until March--they aren't going to have the real soundtrack for a while now.

The reason they picked the track is because the lyrics in the song relate to WATCHMEN. As a fan of WATCHMEN I think it was a fine choice. I just hope that the next trailer will show a little more...
