Inspired by AnonymousAnonymous's thread on cult classics we members haven't seen yet, I wanna ask...what's the most obscure cult movie you HAVE seen?

For me, it would have to be, no contest, "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" (1964)

So, what about you guys and gals out here? Have any you've seen that I'd be envious of? :P

I remember watching a Kuchar Brothers film from the 50's a couple of months ago. I forget the title but it was awesome. I wish I remembered the title...

I read that John Waters, Andy Warhol, and David Lynch were inspired by the camp audacity of the Kuchars' filmmaking. Looking back at the movie, I can notice the influence.

'The Gingerdead Man' 2005 Z-list horror.

The ashes of a murderer get mixed into cookie dough at a bakery, resulting in the homicidal 3ft tall gingerdead man (complete with chocolate chip buttons). Apparently there's a sequel coming soon...

Skidoo was on last night on TCM. Since none of you have heard of it, I'll explain the plot in these sentences: Jackie Gleason trips on acid in prison, Carol Channing in bra and tights, Groucho Marx plays a mob kingpin calling himself "God," dancing garbage cans, trippy Nilsson songs (he even sings the closing credits!).

I saw the film on an Internet bootleg and trust me: It's far out.

This is a difficult one....

I made it through John Carpenter's Dark Star (had to get my wife to leave the room because she kept telling me it was crap).

I've just had a look at the Top 50 cult movies to get some ideas...
http://www.filmsite.org/cultfilmsew.html

and I've seen these - but I don't think they're very obscure...
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Freaks (1932)
Harold and Maude (1971)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Scarface (1983)
Blade Runner
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Brazil (1985)
Faster, Pussy-Cat! Kill! Kill! (1966)
Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn (1987)
Akira (1988)
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Re-Animator (1985)
Barbarella (1968)

I've seen these ones off your list...

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Harold and Maude (1971)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Scarface (1983)
Blade Runner
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Barbarella (1968)

There's also...
El Topo (1970)
The Big Lobowski
Eraserhead (bad dvd so I didn't finish watching it)
The Royal Tenenbaums
Punishment Park

I'm sure there are others I can't remember now.

The most obscure one I've seen is probably "Rock & Rule". Before it was released on DVD, the only way to get hold of it was to order a video directly from the studio (since it was so rarely bought, they'd make them individually for each order), and when it first came out it was only shown in a handful of cinemas, to less than a hundred people in total. It's an amazing film though, and my favourite film of all time. :) It deserves to be better known than it is!

Stop the presses! I just remembered a film I saw last year via Limewire download, but it can also be watched on YouTube if any of you are interested...

It's called... "Un Chien Andalou"

it's a silent movie from 1929, but it contains the earliest ever instance of 'gore' in a motion picture; a young woman getting her eyeball sliced with a straight razor! EEEWWW!! !

That film contains stuff that would make David Lynch (Eraserhead] feel envious. :P

Just my two cents ^_^

Eraserhead was only very briefly available on DVD in Australia - I missed out on it. Still waiting for a re-release.

Who has seen John Carpenter's Dark Star and what did you think of the alien? I think it would be fun at the beach.

8O There are no words to explain that movie. Besides creeepy. If there is an artistic edge to it, I missed it by a long shot at the spaghetti bathtub scene.
