Has anyone else seen the movie "Fear and Trembling"?

http://imdb.com/title/tt0318725/

(mininova may still have it if you can't get the DVD anywhere)

The movie is in french, but it takes place in Japan. Based on a novel by the same title.

Makes me wonder how people with AS could survive in an asian corporate environment.

Is the novel by Amélie Nothomb translated into English? I have read it but I have not yet seen the movie.

I do not think it is a reliable testimony of life in Japan.

It's not meant to be strictly literal, but some on IMDB have commented that it (the movie) is realistic portrayal with the exception of some bombastic acting.

We need the opinion of a Japanese worker.

Why? Isn't one opinion as valid as another? If I picked fruit as a living, are my experiences any less telling than someone more stereotypical for the job like a Mexican?

She was a Japanese worker in that she actually worked in Japan. I don't see how you can take any of that away from her. She didn't tell the story from anyone else's point of view.

I don't believe in the reliability of novels.

Nobody is claiming it's a documentary. She's explaining a point of view using a more ideal portrayal than reality can clearly convey. It would be difficult to explain such abstract concepts using a literal explanation of how events occurred. That being said, it doesn't mean its a false portrayal.
