I was watching Sicko the film about Health Care systems across the world. Michael Moore's has Canadian relatives in London, Ontario, Canada. His
home town is in Michigan which is close to Canada. His accent is close to a Canadian. His policies are more Canadian than American. I think he has roots in Canada.

I have roots in Canada too. That does not make me Canadian.

Quote:
Americans hate this guy because he criticizes their country.

But I think Mr. Moore is a patriot. He's just not the kind of patriot that is blindly worshipful of his country.

I've been reading "The conscience of a Liberal" by Economics Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman. In the book he discusses the American medical system from a liberal point of view in ways that resemble Michael Moore's documentary (Sicko). However, the book is more analitical with lots of facts and figures while the movie is rather anecdotal (tells a lot about peoples persoanal experiences etc....)

That's just because a lot of people in Michigan tend to be like that, they like a lot of the same things Canadians like and have similar culture. And a lot of Michiganders have roots in Canada. I know a large portion of my ancestors were Canadian (mostly from southern Quebec, near Kanien’Kahake country).

Michael Moore has duel Americain/Canadian citizenship and see's a doctor in both countries.

He loves America, but thinks that some changes need to be made, he has seen how well some other conutries do when it comes to taking care of it's people and he wonders why America can't take care of its people as well as the other countries can.
He was also a eagle scout and he is a life-time member of the NRA.

Apparently, Mr. Moore's intellectual arguments, altruism and non-subordinate patriotism make him the object of derision for those of ignorant persuasion

That's true. Those who dislike him tend not to come up with anything more intellectual than "He's a Moron."

But, yes, a lot of people from Michigan talk like he does.

Don't know if he's a moron, but I've never finished one of his movies. They embarrass the #$% out of me...I couldn't be that rude to anyone if I tried....

I think he has a black and white view of the world, which is separated into 2 types;

those who agree with him completely

and dangerous @#$%'s who have to be stopped.

Well, at least that is more intellectual than "he's a moron."

I tend to appreciate his point of view.

Me too. Capitalist governments need socialist elements like Moore to keep them honest, to maintain the balance.

The problem I have with Michael Moore, is that he twists the facts to support his own conclusions. If you do any research at all, you can find holes and omissions of facts in his movies. He uses the guise of a documentary to push his political agenda and edits his movie footage to skew the data so it meets his results. This wouldn't be an issue, but because he dons a holier than thou attitude it makes him, as I stated earlier, a complete moron.

I certainly wouldn't call Moore himself a moron, since propagnandist, fraud or conman are much more accurate pejoratives in this case. I have however heard the colloquialism "Moore-ons" for describing his more rabid fans, since even cursory investigation into Moore's claims will easily invalidate them. I'd especially recommend looking into the timeline behind his first hit Roger and Me, and pay very close attention to his clips of Charlton Heston in Bowling for Columbine. Not only is the "speach" Heston gives cobbled together from multiple clips (his tie and the background keep changing between cuts), but if you look at a wallclock in the background during his interview, you can see the hands jumping back and forth as Moore edits the film to make Heston say what he wants him to. Remember that this is a guy that was fired from Mother Jones magazine for incompetence, then greenmailed them for enough money to finance his first film. He's not even from Flint Michigan, he's from the next town over...

his accent is NOT canadian. it is northern midwest american, which is VERY different from canadian.....when michiganders come over here we can tell the difference, we can hear the accent in their voices easily....i grew up in a border town between ontario and michigan and there is a HUGE difference in accent. you guys don't even call pop pop, you call it "soda" lol
