I watched the first four episodes (american version). It seemed like it would be a good show to watch. I just have to get around to obtaining all of them. I really don't have the time to watch them while they are on TV.

Would you be so kind to help me start some activity going in my new office forum then? It will never grow if noone starts posting some icebreakers.

how much of the US version has aired? I saw the pilot (episode 1) and the script was almost identical, except for the removal of sexual and cultural references.

imo it was nowhere near as good as the BBC original, which was car-crash-comedy at its most cringe-worthy. But it was still enjoyable to watch again in a slightly different way.

tbh theres a feeling of annoyance in the UK that so many things are 'adapted' for US transmission. (very often the results are so bad only the pilots get made ie. Red Dwarf) I mean, would occasional exposure to a foriegn culture really kill you? - are we really that repulsive? :D

The BBC show was the most addictive thing I ever watch. David Brent is probably the best character in television history. (shock horror, how can I say that??). Damn British television, six episodes is not a season!

btw, if you liked the BBC version, you might want to check out Ricky Gervais' podcast over at http://www.guardian.co.uk/rickygervais. For those that don't know Ricky is one of the two creator's of the orignial Office (comic masterpeice).

As far as the US version, I started liking it after it really started diverging from the UK version, except for how they are handling Micheal's charector. I think they are making him too much of a likeable idiot. *shrug*

I liked the BBC series when it was on over here. I saw every episode.

Having experienced many social disasters, I guess I should be particularly sensitive to this sort of cringeworthy comedy.
I'm a bit surprised that with all the speculation people indulge in over certain characters from film and TV possibly having Asperger's Syndrome I've never heard anyone mention Keith Bishop, the chubby accounts dude from The Office. I guess he's just not as glamorous as, say, Sherlock Holmes (?). I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ewen Macintosh based aspects of Keith's character on a real person with AS.

It's not just Keith's monotonous voice that does it for me. His conversational timing is noticeably bad.
In one scene where people are standing around introducing themselves he manages to kill the atmosphere with one word: "Keith."

There's another scene featuring a strange conversation between Keith and Tim that for some reason reminds me of some of the fruitless conversations I've attempted in the past. In particular the way I will often find myself in a situation where I feel like I should make conversation, and I might borrow a conversational technique or two, and then end up contradicting myself because I have no well-defined feelings about what I'm talking about, and no visualisation of where the conversation might lead.
Anyway, this is a transcript of the scene I'm referring to:

Quote:
<silence>
Keith: Just looking at the booklet at the moment?
Tim: Mmm
Keith: What you watch on telly last night?
Tim: I didnt watch telly i watch a video
Keith: I watched that Peak Practise
Tim: Oh yeah? Never seen it
Keith: Bloody repeat
Tim: Ah, annoying isnt it?
Keith: Not for me; I hadn't seen it
<Tim looks up in despair>
<silence>
Keith: Boring isn't it? Just staying in watching Peak Practise wth your life
Tim: Mmm
Keith: Not for me; I like it
Tim: Yeah i just stayed in and had a big w*k
<silence>

Keiths character was genius - every single line was quote-worthy.

Yes Keith rocked, shame he didn't have a greater role on the show.
