The only problems are that my player, a Sony BDPS-300 is from 2007 and has only ever once played Mamma Mia! through all the way, usually it can crash even before the language menu, or if you're lucky, after watching some of the film. This rarely happens with DVDs but BD is the future and this is probably a rematch of VHS/Betamax in the 70s apart from the fact that there is a stable alternative home video format in the DVD.
I haven't been able to make it through all of Mamma Mia even once.
Your player crashing sounds like you need to update your firmware.
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-li ... dl=BDPS300I bought the Terminator and Matrix Trilogy's and was never able to watch them because of the crashing. I downloaded the update, burned to a DVD and loaded into the player. Now no crashing and I can watch all of my movies.

Update 4.20 works wonders for my european player.
I bought dutch BluRay versions of both Speedracer and Romancing the Stone yesterday.
With both discs I was still looking at the loading screen after 10 minutes in spite of having firmware 3.95.
After upgrading the firmware to 4.2 both played flawlessly.
The website site states this update is only US and Latin America players but I think it is fair to add european players as well
