Exactly who is the family guy in "Family Guy"?

I think it's Peter Griffin.

I've often wondered about this too, but I agree that it's probably referring to Peter.

It's being sarcastic, saying that Peter is a family guy when he really isn't much for his family.

Brian is smarter than Peter, but as Peter is the star of the show i suppose he is the family guy.

Yes. That's the point. The name was picked because it sounded sitcomy and because its ironic in the context of the show (ie Peter Griffin is a terrible father and husband).

Peter more than likely.

All I know is, they're probably referencing to the father in the intro. I think it would have to be Peter, as it really doesn't seem like most of his friends have as much children as he, and he is the main character.
