Just found this place.

Im usually very embarrased about talking about this, and i pretend that i have no condition at all, luckily being only a mild asperger i can get away with this. I think though its about time i stop hiding it away and discuss it, thats why ive signed up here! :D

Was diagnosed at a very young age, im very lucky that many major things such as crowds, routines and obsessions dont affect me too much, im quite mild asperger, but my social skills are well, lets just say pretty rubbish haha, ive been lucky to get myself in with some very understamding friends, but even they dont yet know i am asperger, they just think im a bit off the wall.

Luckily aspergers syndrome has left me with some benefits, such as an above average IQ, and a great memory, but sometimes not even these make up for the embarrasment it cuases me sometimes.

Another great thing seems to be that if i really like something, like a hobby and i take it up, i nearly always end up getting quite far in it, for example i decided to take up bass guitar earlier this year, and ive already been asked to join a band!

Joe ;)

Welcome jshaw,

I think you should check your post. Obsessions do not affect you, but something like a hobby I always end up getting quite far in it.

We are not talking about fliping on light switches, as obsession, bass guitar will do.

This AS is sneeky. I knew I was something, and discovered I do a lot of things I never noticed till they came up around here.

Anyhow, a lot of people very in to music here, and other hobbies.

You will fit in and enjoy the playground.

Nobody's embarrassed about it here - most of us are proud of it... it defines us.

It's good to face up to what you are and learn what motivates you.

The more you learn about aspergers, the more you can say, oh... that's an aspie thing... I can live with that...

Welcome!

Cool that you've learned to play the bass guitar. I have a bass guitar as well, but I haven't played it for several years now. Too busy with other things. But some years ago I played it so often that I had to swathe my right index and middle finger with tape.

I can relate to that, although I wasn't diagnosed until my 22nd year. I don't tell anyone else about my condition, and I doubt most people would ever guess. Welcome to Wrong Planet, jshaw.
