Sorry to wander off this morning, that first post was MAD EMPOWERING... but... I regressed... and edited a second post until daylight, while taking a break from a question-by-question analysis of that infernal "Aspie Test".... ( "You answered inconsistently on too many control questions" ROFL - best! most accurate! analysis! ever! must! understand! )

I'll need to work a biographical detail in here somewhere.... how about:

I'm thirty (awkward pause, doing math) three (oh right, the "8"...) four. 34. I always get the impression no one who notices that pause in rl ever forgets it. The trick is remembering to do it before the mouth shapes the word "thirty" otherwise I'm stuck playing it off as - yet another - self-deprecating joke. It happens fast - very fast - and I can improvise! But still... occasionally, a thought....

But onto what? Onto forchrissakes fricken WHAT??

Another clue: My (cut-glass sensitive) significant other (soul mate? baby momma? "Lois"?) - she was giving me a ride to work this morning (well, okay, afternoon... work is not where my head is right now, but they have also seen long stretches of 16-hour days and are indulgent.)

Anyway, we are in the car, subject is the weather. I am phoning it in - big time - but trying to keep the "witty" turned up to 10.... I don't remember exactly what was clogging the ol' channel capacity, but I was probably considering the relative merits of what I'd last said, looking ahead to the next quip, while trying not to break focus on what I was *really* thinking about behind it all.....

...so I failed to ingest something she'd said... and here is where I royally screw up. Instead of just quietly sitting there, shifting focus to mundane, extrapolating from the context, or sounding out the syllables to myself and putting it all together, what do I do?

Same as usual... I start blurting out the syllables in a tone that sounds like I am handling a turd: "AH SAW EET OHNTHA LOAGGLE NUZE??!?!?!?".... yes, in all caps, and I do practically spell out the "??!?!?!?" in casual speech... right about the instant I realize she saw it on the local news rather than Fox, and that my global warming joke wasn't on target - she has had enough! I am public enemy number one with my alleged sardonic mockery: "Do you have any idea what you sound like??!"

And immediately I am fililed with deep, abiding regret... for 20 bucks, I could have taken a cab.

*da-dum, ching*

There should be a confessional booth somewhere: "forgive me father, I abandoned certain well-considered checks and balances today and let it all hang out. it has been thirty.... err... three... no, make that thirty-four years since my last confession...."

Sorry for hijacking your thread a bit.

If you didn't score consistently on the aspie test maybe you're more ADD than aspie - that would explain some of the issues you hinted at - I say hinted because I had a lot of trouble following your post.

I agree on the ADD - and once I left out questions whose syntax sent me into a pedantic who's-on-first loop, Aspie-quiz did too. With ADD looming high above the rest, the bottom line was:

152/200 aspie (but aspie itself #4 on the list)
64/200 NT

Schizophrenic and bipolar also ranked higher than aspie. Schizophrenic, no - that's more exotic than what I experience. Bipolar II at least, that I could never deny. A dash of aspie and a gallon of ADD does seem to round it out, covering (at last) the tendency to burn through several lifelong passions a month.
