Like so many others here I've learned most of my language by reading. So it's to be expected that I would pronounce things wrong at times.

I also do the reading thing sometimes, saying Hermyowny (Hermione), ockZIMaron (oxymoron... I didn't believe us stupid enough to have 'moron' in a word!), Jooun (Juan: meant all the jokes about 'seen Juan, you seem Amal' went over my head!)

I used to think it was meant to be said "seen 'jeh' one, seen Amal", like a mispronunciation of 'the' :P

How do you pronounce Hermione then?

Nope, it's a reading thing. Maybe aspies read more than average NTs, but you get bookworm NTs too.

I always thought it was Her-mee-own til the film came out.

I stip and trumble ( :P ) over my words a lot, but it's hopeless when I'm nervous. That's why I prefer sign language! :D

I do that alot. I know how to pronounce the word, but sometimes I just can't say it the way I want to. One day i was doing it so bad a guy asked me if I was from a different country because it sounded like I had an accent. :?

Yeah, I'm the same with learning alot of words from reading so I pronounce them in a different way, like perturbed I say per-toobed and things like that. I can't think of any other examples, which is probably a good thing :P .

That's called a spoonerism. Famous examples:
A well boiled icicle - a well oiled bicycle
Fighting liars - lighting fires
and more... http://www.fun-with-words.com/spoonerisms.html

I used to think the word "nearby" was pronounced ner-bee. I took me years to figure out the correct way of saying it and I still read it the wrong way

Just a thought - does anyone mix up their word order within a sentence? I don't tend to now, because I correct myself just before actually speaking the words, but when I'm thinking of a sentence the nouns are often the wrong way, if not the verbs as well.

I stutter sometimes and often trip over my words, though when I mispronounce something I do realize I've mispronounced it and try to correct myself.

When I was younger I used to call Popeye, PiePie. And my mother couldn't convince me otherwise for a very long time. I also called those Chips Ahoy! cookies "Chips Mahoy". Typical stubborn, eccentric little kid stuff.

I slur and mispronounce my words all the time, but I always attributed it to being half deaf in my left ear.

I don't remember this, but my dad told me that as a toddler, I always pronounced "bishops" (Chess) like "dish-ups"

And I always pronounce Emoticons as "emmy-colons"
